Ocarina of Time Wiki

Nintendo's action-adventure game, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, was created for the Nintendo 64 and launched in November 1998 in Japan and North America, followed by PAL regions the following month. This was the first game in The Legend of Zelda series to feature 3D graphics. The development was led by Nintendo EAD, with five directors including Eiji Aonuma and Yoshiaki Koizumi. Shigeru Miyamoto, the co-creator of the series, produced the game, while Kensuke Tanabe wrote the story, and Koji Kondo composed the musical score.

Players take on the role of Link, navigating the fantasy land of Hyrule on a mission to stop the evil king Ganondorf, traveling through time and solving puzzles in dungeons and the overworld. The game introduced innovative features like a target-lock system and context-sensitive buttons that have since become commonplace in 3D adventure games. The player must learn to play a range of songs on an ocarina to progress.

Critics and consumers praised the game's visuals, sound, gameplay, soundtrack, and writing. It won numerous awards and accolades and has been regarded as the best video game of all time by various publications. It also enjoyed commercial success, with over seven million copies sold globally. In the United States, it received more pre-orders than any other game at the time.

The game has been re-released on every Nintendo home console since its initial release, as well as the iQue Player in China. An enhanced version for the Nintendo 3DS, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D, was released in 2011. Additionally, an alternative version of the game, Master Quest, which includes new puzzles and increased difficulty, is included in one of the GameCube releases and the 3D version.
