Outlander Season 7 Episode 6 Ending Explained

In the episode "Where the Waters Meet," the story unfolds with Jemmy mentioning encounters with the Nuckelavee, a mythical horse-like demon from Orcadian folklore.

Roger becomes suspicious of someone posing as the Nuckelavee near Lallybroch. After a class, Roger spots a man and gives chase, only to discover that the person pretending to be the Nuckelavee is none other than William "Buck" Buccleigh MacKenzie, the illegitimate son of Dougal MacKenzie and time traveler Geillis Duncan.

Buck is actually a distant ancestor of Roger and has been residing in Lallybroch after traveling from the eighteenth century to the twentieth century. This encounter is not the first between Roger and Buck. In a previous episode, after Roger time-traveled back to the past for Brianna, he encountered Morag MacKenzie, Buck's wife, whom he embraces as his great-great-grandmother.

This action angers Buck, leading to a violent altercation where Buck beats and hangs Roger, leaving him in a traumatic state. In the upcoming episodes, Roger may seek to understand Buck's motives for traveling through time, hoping it's not solely to frighten his children, Jemmy and Amanda. As for Jamie, during the Revolutionary War, he initially decides to fight for the Rebels after learning about American history from Claire and Brianna.

However, he later reconsiders, realizing that there isn't a clear right side to choose in this war. Jamie is reluctant to oppose his own son William and the Mohawks, who are relatives of his nephew Young Ian, or to fight against the Rebels since their demands are just. As a result, he plans to leave for Scotland to avoid getting entangled in the war.

However, circumstances force him to join the Militia and fight for the Rebels. Despite his enlistment period ending when the Rebels flee from Fort Ticonderoga, Jamie chooses to remain in the militia after speaking with Daniel Morgan, who leads a group of riflemen. He understands that the people around him need his help, realizing that any war that inflicts suffering on his fellow men is his war to fight.

He cannot abandon those whose lives hang in the balance due to the War. Upon learning about the British Army's extensive plans against the Continental Army, Jamie comprehends that he cannot simply walk away from his group, even if it means facing his son on the battlefield. He recognizes that the War goes beyond him and his son, which persuades him to continue fighting alongside Morgan and the militia, beyond his initial enlistment period.

Outlander Season 7 Episode 6 Recap

The episode "Where the Waters Meet" opens with Jamie and Claire leading a group of civilians through a dense forest to safety. Unfortunately, their journey is disrupted when a group of British soldiers disguise themselves as Native Americans to frighten the civilians. Jamie and Young Ian join forces to eliminate the soldiers and protect the group.

Meanwhile, Claire sets out on a mission to find Mrs. Raven, who has an extreme fear of Native Americans. Tragically, Claire discovers Mrs. Raven has taken her own life, leaving her in shock and disbelief. While still processing the distressing events, Claire herself is taken captive by a British soldier. Back at the fort, William Ransom informs his superior about the accident that prevented him from delivering some letters.

When William reveals his knowledge about Samuel Cartwright being a rebel, he learns that the recipients of those letters are British spies who have infiltrated the Continental Army. At the fort, Claire encounters Walter, a fellow prisoner suffering from an embolism. She seeks help from William for medicines and bandages to assist her fellow prisoners.

During this encounter, William recognizes Claire as the matriarch at Fraser's Ridge, and Claire is stunned to realize that the soldier before her is none other than her husband Jamie's son. Despite Claire's efforts to save Walter with the supplies provided by William, he tragically succumbs to his condition.

Young Ian comes to Claire's rescue and helps her escape from the clutches of the British Army, with William compelled to assist due to a debt he owes to Young Ian. Meanwhile, Roger MacKenzie takes on the role of a teacher at his son Jemmy's school, aiming to teach Gaelic. In an unfortunate twist of events, he accidentally passes his journal containing personal information.

The journal is discovered and read by Brianna's colleague, Rob Cameron, who uses this newfound knowledge to manipulate Roger. Rob Cameron introduces himself to Roger and forces him to invite him to dinner with the MacKenzies, setting the stage for potential conflict and tension among the characters. As the story unfolds, the characters' paths intertwine, leading to further twists and revelations.
