- Initial Setup: You begin inside a tall building with the objective of infiltrating the penthouse and stealing an encrypted SSD from a vault. Here's a rundown of guard positions:
- Alternative Entrance: As you approach the penthouse entrance, you'll encounter a guard and a camera. Shade will suggest an alternative entrance accessible by going upstairs and sneaking through a vent. You'll need to put on your mask to enter the vent.
- Vent Options: Inside the vent, there are three possible exits. Avoid the one leading directly to the main foyer as it's usually crowded with guards and civilians. Instead, go right into the lower vents. One exit leads outside Mason Laurent's office, and the other takes you closer to the Master Bedroom. Either of these routes is suitable.
- Locating the Master Bedroom: Once inside the penthouse, your first objective is to find the Master Bedroom on the upper floor. Beware of security cameras and hack the keypad on the bedroom door's side.
- Connecting to WiFi: You'll need to connect to the building's WiFi to unlock the bedroom door. Stand in specific spots on the map and fill up a circular progress bar to achieve this. While doing this, it's a good time to eliminate some guards if you have spare radios. Consider killing at least one guard on the upper floor and one on the lower floor to make maneuvering easier.
- Locating the Head Guard: The Head Guard patrols both the upper and lower floors and carries a phone you need to hack. You can either kill him or interact with the phone on his belt. Hacking the phone requires standing in a circle for a short time, so choose a strategic location for this.
- Revealing the Vault Switch: After connecting all WiFi signals, return to the Master Bedroom and search for a Vault Switch on one of the interactable bookshelves. When you find the right one, a wall panel will open, granting access to Mason Laurent's office.
- Getting the Red Keycard: To enter the office, you'll need a Red Keycard. Access a filing room using the QR code obtained from the Head Guard and check the filing cabinets for the keycard. Then, head to Mason Laurent's office on the far side of the penthouse and use the keycard on the door.
- Activating the Panic Room Button: Look around in Mason's office for the Panic Room button, typically located on the side of the desk. Pressing it will reveal a door you need to pass through.
- Forcing Mason to Open the Door: To gain entry, you must force Mason to open the door. He's usually in the main room of the penthouse with others, along with guards and cameras, making it a risky place to approach him. Shade will suggest waiting for a courier to bring expensive whiskey to the penthouse. Find poison in one of the storage cupboards, then spike Mason's drink.
- Taking Mason as a Shield: When Mason takes a drink and heads to the nearest bathroom, grab him as a human shield. Take him up the nearby stairs to the office and push him in front of the panic room, which he'll open.
- Cracking the Vault: Inside the panic room, you'll find a whiteboard with four different codes. The correct code corresponds to the fingerprints on the keypad. If a code doesn't have a fingerprint, it's not the right one. Enter the correct code to open the vault.
- Securing the SSD: Enter the vault and crack the safe by turning the dial three times until it's in the green zone. Retrieve the encrypted SSD.
- Decrypting the SSD: Return to the computer in Mason's office and decrypt the drive. It takes some time, so you can move bags if you have any. There's cash and cocaine inside the panic room, as well as jewelry bags in the vault for extra money.
- Escape: Secure the bags on the lower floor by placing them in the elevator where you started the heist. This elevator is your escape zone, so ensure all players are inside it when you're ready to leave.

Payday 3 used Unreal Engine 4 initially but plans to upgrade to Unreal Engine 5 later. A teaser trailer titled "A New Criminal Dawn" was released on January 1, 2023. Unlike its predecessor, console versions will match the PC version, thanks to the game's use of Unreal Engine. Overkill confirmed the game's release on September 21, 2023, with early access on September 18 for Silver and Gold bundle pre-orders.
