The game is available on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Windows, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S since November 17, 2023. An additional story chapter called "Repaint Your Heart" was also released as downloadable content on the same day.

The story of Persona 5 Tactica unfolds concurrently with the events of Persona 5 (2016). It follows the Phantom Thieves of Hearts as they find themselves in an alternate world filled with war and oppression. To combat this, they join forces with a group of freedom fighters called the Rebel Corps to lead a revolution against the oppressive Legionnaires.

The gameplay adopts the standard features of strategy RPGs, including grid-based navigation, a weapon affinity system, and turn-based combat. It also incorporates familiar mechanics from the Persona series, such as summoning and fusing Personas, as well as elemental affinities.

Persona 5 Tactica Gameplay

Persona 5 Tactica is a tactical role-playing video game where players control a team of up to three characters on a grid-based map filled with enemy units. The game employs a turn-based combat system, where players directly face off against enemies when encounters are initiated.

In battles, players guide the central members of the Phantom Thieves of Hearts and the Rebel Corps' leader, Erina. The characters can strategically take cover during fights to reduce or entirely block incoming damage. Actions can be taken at any point on the grid, and characters have the option to end their turn early for a beneficial effect in the next round.

The combat features close-quarters physical attacks that can push enemies across the grid. Additionally, characters can use gun attacks to hit enemies from a distance, and some characters can target multiple enemies with a single shot. The Phantom Thieves can call upon their Personas during battles, allowing them to use various Skills at the cost of Skill Points (SP). Similar to Persona 5, these Skills have different elemental affinities, influencing how enemies move within the area.

When a character successfully attacks an enemy not in cover, the enemy is knocked down, granting the player an extra turn, known as "1 More." If at least one enemy is knocked down and surrounded by ally units in a triangular formation on the grid, the player can initiate a powerful "Triple Threat" attack, dealing significant damage to all enemies within the triangle.

Players can collect additional Personas throughout the game and equip them as Sub-Personas to characters, providing extra skills. These Personas can be obtained as rewards from battles or by fusing multiple Personas together, adding a layer of strategy to character customization and combat.
