Planet Zoo

Planet Zoo, developed by Frontier Developments, is a 2019 construction and management simulation game available exclusively for Microsoft Windows. It is a spiritual successor to the highly popular Zoo Tycoon and Zoo Tycoon 2 games and features similar gameplay to Frontier's other hit game, Planet Coaster.

In Planet Zoo, players are put in charge of their own virtual zoo, tasked with building habitats, caring for animals, and ensuring the satisfaction of their guests. The game features over 70 animal species, each with its own unique needs and behaviors, as well as a wide variety of building and customization options to create the ultimate zoo experience.

One of the standout features of Planet Zoo is the level of detail and realism in the game's animal behavior and interactions. Animals have complex needs and behaviors that players must manage, such as hunger, thirst, socialization, and enrichment. Each animal has its own set of requirements and preferences, and players must carefully design habitats to meet these needs and keep their animals healthy and happy.

The game's graphics are also a major selling point, with stunningly realistic animals and environments that transport players to a world of wildlife conservation and management. From the tiniest details like the rustling of leaves in the wind to the larger-than-life spectacle of a lion pride on the prowl, every aspect of the game has been crafted with painstaking attention to detail.

But the game is not just about creating a beautiful zoo. Players must also manage the financial aspect of their zoo, balancing the needs of their animals with the desires of their guests and the realities of a limited budget. This requires careful planning and decision-making to maximize profits and keep the zoo running smoothly.

Planet Zoo Walkthrough Exhibit

The Walkthrough Exhibit is a popular item in the Facilities/Animal Exhibits section, designed to showcase animals with complex behaviors in a unique way. The exhibit measures 12m by 20m and allows guests to view the animals from both inside the exhibit and through windows that are not closed.

One of the most exciting features of the Walkthrough Exhibit is the opportunity for guests to interact with some of the animals on display. For example, the Grasslands Animal Pack exhibit allows visitors to interact with butterflies, which is a rare and unforgettable experience.

To ensure that each animal is housed in an appropriate environment, the exhibit includes customization options that can be tailored to fit the specific needs of each species. These customization options are limited to certain choices, depending on the animal in question.

For instance, the Egyptian Fruit Bat exhibit comes with wire mesh walls and ceilings, with no flooring and PVC strip curtains for doors. In contrast, the Grasslands Animal Pack exhibit features netting walls and ceilings, mulch flooring, and PVC strip curtains for doors. The Brown-throated Sloth exhibit, on the other hand, comes with wire mesh walls and ceilings, mulch flooring, and PVC strip curtains for doors.

The walls and ceilings of the exhibit can be customized separately, with players having the option to choose from several materials. The list of options for walls and ceilings includes none, solid, glass, netting (for butterflies and empty exhibits), and wire mesh (for bats, sloths, and empty exhibits). The flooring of the exhibit can also be customized, with options ranging from none to mulch (for butterflies and sloths) to solid (for bats and empty exhibits). Finally, players can also customize the doors of the exhibit. The two options available are none and PVC strip curtains.

Planet Zoo guide

Planet Zoo is a fantastic game that lets you build and manage your own zoo. One of the most important aspects of the game is building facilities that will help you take care of your animals and keep your guests happy.

1. Trade Centre

The Trade Centre is where you can buy or adopt new animals for your zoo. Once you have acquired an animal, it will be transported from the Trade Centre to its appropriate exhibit. Keep in mind that some animals require specific habitats, so make sure you have the right exhibit ready before you bring them in.

2. Workshop

Your mechanics need a Workshop to carry out repairs and conduct research. The research they conduct can unlock new zoo facilities, themes, and buildings. Be sure to check in on your mechanics' progress and assign new research tasks regularly.

3. Research Centre

Your vets will conduct research about the different animals in your zoo at the Research Centre. Each animal you adopt will unlock its research panel as it enters your zoo. Vets can then research new enrichment items and other objects for them. They can also research diseases to help prevent them from occurring or identify and treat them faster if they do.

4. Vet Centre

The Vet Centre is where you can treat any sick animals and cure them. If you see a sick animal notification, make sure to check if the vet is on their way. Vets should stop tasks if there is a sick animal and move it to the Vet Centre or to a quarantine. Keep in mind that treating sick animals can be costly, so make sure you have enough funds to cover it.

5. Quarantine

It is recommended that new animals spend some time in quarantine before they are introduced into their exhibit. This can help prevent the spread of disease, especially if they are joining an established group. Vets will also heal any injuries they find. These are especially common with animals that don't come from other zoos.

6. Keeper Hut

The Keeper Hut is where your zookeepers will prepare food for the animals. As such, they should be placed near the exhibits. Make sure to include them in the work areas of your staff as well.

7. Staff Room

Your staff requires downtime, so placing Staff Rooms near clusters of employees is a good idea. A Staff Room near your research buildings, vendors, and exhibits is recommended.

8. Toilets

Toilets are an essential facility for every park. Make sure you spread them out as your park expands so all your guests will be comfortable and want to stay longer.

9. Food & Drink Vendors

Guests get hungry and thirsty, so you need food and drink vendors to help with this. They also generate revenue for your park, which you'll desperately need. Keep an eye on your staff members assigned to each vendor, and consider hiring an extra vendor to cover breaks.

10. Extras

You can also place information points and ATMs, which are helpful but not vital. ATMs will encourage visitors to spend more, and information points can generate revenue. An extra store that sells merchandise can also help bring in some extra cash.

Planet Zoo Gameplay

Planet Zoo is a video game that tasks players with building and managing a zoo. The game features a variety of animal species in the base game, with additional species available through sixteen separate downloadable content packs and the Deluxe Edition. The animals in Planet Zoo are controlled by artificial intelligence and behave similarly to their real-life counterparts.

For instance, wolves in the game adopt a pack mentality, and animals of the African plains, such as elephants, giraffes, zebras, wildebeest, and buffalo, can live together in a single mixed-species habitat. Each species in Planet Zoo has its own requirements and needs that players must satisfy through the creation of a suitable exhibit environment and adequate behavioral enrichment.

In Planet Zoo, predators can attack and kill other animals, but unlike in Zoo Tycoon, they cannot attack guests. This makes the game more realistic and provides players with the opportunity to witness natural predator-prey interactions in a controlled environment.

Each animal in Planet Zoo has its own genome within the game's breeding system, reflecting its life expectancy, size, health, and fertility, and can be passed down through offspring. As a result, elements such as inbreeding may have negative consequences on progeny, adding an extra layer of complexity to the game.
