Pokemon Unite Gameplay

Pokémon Unite is an action-packed multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA) game where two teams of five players each compete in standard matches. The goal is to accumulate the highest total score within the 10-minute match duration, securing victory for the team with the top score at the end. In case of a tie, the team that reached the final score first emerges as the winner.

The game introduces unique features such as limited-time events with special rules and a Quick Battle mode, offering shorter 5-minute matches on smaller maps with 3-4 players per team and rule modifications.

Players begin controlling relatively weak Pokémon, and throughout the match, they can strengthen their Pokémon by capturing wild ones, assisting in defeating teammates' captured Pokémon, scoring goals, and knocking out opponent Pokémon. Unlike traditional Pokémon games, Pokémon Unite doesn't employ the "type" system but introduces "Unite Moves," special moves unique to each Pokémon, unlocked at specific levels.

The game boasts a diverse roster of over 50 playable Pokémon, each bringing its own strengths and strategies to the battlefield. Pokémon Unite stands out from other MOBAs by omitting an in-game scoreboard to discourage players from leaving due to frustration, with score updates provided through timely announcements during the match.

For example, announcements like "We have a huge lead!" or "We're REALLY struggling!" indicate the current score status, adding to the suspense and excitement of the game.

Pokemon Unite's Story

Pokemon Unite is a new addition to The Pokemon Company's collection of free-to-play Pokemon games, focusing on competitive online gameplay. While it includes a light storyline, the main setting is Aeos Island, where Professor Phorus and researcher Erbie are investigating Aeos energy, a unique energy type involved in Unite Battles.

In the game, Pokemon Trainers aim to gather Aeos energy using a specialized Unite Ball. This collected energy is then incorporated into the gameplay, where trainers and their Pokemon strive to score energy points in the goal zones of their opponents. The story doesn't explicitly delve into how this energy is utilized or its specific purpose, but it plays a crucial role in the game dynamics.

The concept involves a strategic and competitive approach, turning the traditional Pokemon experience into a team-based, online battle format. As trainers navigate Aeos Island, they engage in battles, employing their Pokemon to score points by successfully utilizing the Aeos energy in the opponents' goal zones. While the storyline may not extensively explore the intricacies of this energy, its significance is highlighted as an integral element that adds depth and excitement to the Pokemon Unite gaming experience.

Pokemon Unite Battle Basics

In Pokemon Unite, each battle involves two teams with five players on a map divided into top, bottom, and middle lanes called the "jungle" where wild Pokemon roam. The objective is to earn Aeos energy by defeating wild Pokemon and opponents, depositing this energy into enemy goal zones for points. The team with the highest points at the end wins, and matches can last up to 10 minutes, with the option for the losing team to surrender.

For an effective team strategy, it's advisable to choose a variety of Pokemon types to fulfill different roles. This includes a speedster for jungle play, a support for control or healing, a defender (tank) for resilience, an attacker for heavy damage, and an all-rounder for versatility in starting and sustaining fights.

Pokemon Unite categorizes these roles into "battle types," with examples like Pikachu, Venusaur, and Alolan Ninetails as attackers, Zeraora, Talonflame, and Gengar as speedsters, Charizard, Lucario, and Machamp as all-rounders, Snorlax, Crustle, and Slowbro as defenders, and Eldegoss, Mr. Mime, and Wigglytuff as supporters.

During the match, players need to play to their Pokemon's strengths, deposit energy in goal zones strategically, and collaborate with the team. Goal zones can be destroyed if not defended, but even if all are destroyed, players can still win by defeating the Legendary Pokemon, doubling the points submitted during its buff. Strategic play, teamwork, and adapting to various roles are essential for success in Pokemon Unite.
