Rare Exports Ending Explained

At the end of Rare Exports, a movie set in Lapland, Finland, the group of local men and a boy named Pietari uncover a secret about Santa Claus. The old man they thought was Santa turns out to be one of Santa's elves. They find a giant block of ice with the real Santa inside and a bunch of stolen children in sacks next to it, including Pietari's friend Juuso.

To save the children and stop the elves, Pietari comes up with a plan. The men use explosives to destroy the ice block containing Santa, and Pietari distracts the elves while the others carry out the plan. The explosion kills Santa and stops the elves from hurting Pietari. In the end, the men decide to train the captured elves to become mall Santas and export them to cities worldwide. It's a unique and unexpected twist on the traditional Santa Claus story.
