Rebecca Ferguson plays the role of Juliette, or Jules, an independent and hardworking engineer in the dystopian world of Silo. The story is set in a tragic and toxic future where survivors reside in a massive silo hundreds of stories deep, as it is the only way to breathe on a planet where the air is deadly. The inhabitants are required to adhere to strict rules to ensure their survival, but some rebels dream of a better future, an act that is considered dangerous. Those who defy the rules are forced to go outside to "clean," which means certain death due to the toxic air.
Wool is also set in a post-apocalyptic world where the remaining humans live in an underground city called The Silo, 144 stories beneath the surface. There are strict regulations in place, with the most important being that no one is allowed to talk or even think about leaving. Anyone who shows a desire to go outside is sent out to clean the external sensors that serve as cameras to the outside world, leading to their immediate death due to toxic gases. Jules is recruited as the sheriff of The Silo due to her determination, responsibility, and stubbornness. She begins to investigate why the former sheriff and his wife volunteered to clean outside, and soon finds herself assigned the same fate.
