Sonic Frontiers is a famous game developed by Sonic Team and published by Sega. The player takes control of Sonic and roams the Starfall Islands to acquire the Chaos Emeralds, following his separation from his friends when they fall through a wormhole. Sonic Frontiers is the first game in the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise to feature an open world that incorporates traditional gameplay features like platforming, rings, and grind rails. While navigating the open world, players can undertake challenges, battle robotic foes, and enter "Cyber Space" levels inspired by previous Sonic games.
Sonic Frontiers Extreme Difficulty Mode
Sonic Frontiers' Extreme mode is considered the most challenging mode in the game, and it can only be initiated as a new game. Once started, players cannot switch to other modes, and the only way to get rid of it is by either deleting the file or completing it. In Extreme mode, Sonic's stats are limited to level 1, making it harder to defeat enemies. Additionally, the Cyber Space stages have stricter S-Rank requirements, and any damage taken by Sonic results in immediate death. Despite these challenges, the enemies become increasingly tougher as the game progresses.
Sonic Frontiers' Extreme mode is acknowledged as the game's most formidable level, and it is exclusively available as a new game. Once players embark on this mode, they cannot switch back to other levels and must either delete the file or complete it to discontinue it. Sonic's abilities in Extreme mode are restricted to level 1, making it more challenging to vanquish adversaries. Moreover, the Cyber Space stages have more stringent S-Rank criteria, and if Sonic incurs any damage, he will die instantaneously. Despite these obstacles, the adversaries become progressively more robust as the game advances.
How to Unlock Sonic Frontiers Extreme Difficulty?
To access the added difficulty of Sonic Frontiers, players must first achieve an S rank in all Battle Rush modes. However, since the Battle Rush is time-based, players must be cautious and proficient to avoid losing points due to even a small error. Therefore, it is recommended that players first upgrade all of Sonic's skills before attempting to achieve an S rank in Battle Rush mode.
In Battle Rush mode, players are ranked based on their overall completion time rather than individual sections, which can be advantageous or disadvantageous depending on the player's performance. Failing in one section but quickly completing another could potentially compensate for the loss of time. After successfully achieving an S rank in all the modes, a notification should appear on the player's screen indicating that the Extreme difficulty has been unlocked. Although clearing Extreme mode does not come with any reward, there is an additional reward for S Ranking Battle Rush. Players will receive a golden badge featuring two swords on the title screen, which they can proudly flaunt as a symbol of their accomplishment.
Sonic Frontiers DLC
Sega and Sonic Team have added two new challenge modes to Sonic Frontiers that players can access after completing the main story campaign. Cyber Space Challenge is a time-attack mode where players must complete multiple stages in a row before the clock runs out, while Battle Rush is a timed-battle mode where players fight multiple enemies, Guardians, and Titans in a single battle. Additionally, two free updates are planned for the game: one to celebrate Sonic's birthday on June 23 and another that will introduce new story elements and playable characters. Sonic Frontiers is available on multiple platforms, including the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Windows PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
