Clive Nicoli and Elsa Kast are in trouble for conducting an illegal experiment to create a protein that could have groundbreaking genetic implications. They are confronted by Clive's brother, Gavin, and their boss, William Barlow. The experiment was believed to have died, but the creature, Dren, is very much alive and starts to attack its creators in a new form.
Dren, previously female, has changed sex and has a new goal: to mate with Elsa. In pursuit of its goal, Dren kills Gavin and William and rapes Elsa. Clive dies trying to save Elsa, and she eventually manages to kill Dren. In a shocking turn of events, Elsa discovers that she is pregnant with Dren's child.
Elsa decides to keep the child, despite its unusual origins, as Dren's DNA holds immense scientific potential. She accepts a large sum of money from Newstead Pharmaceuticals to support her decision. In the intense climax of Splice, Dren surprises everyone by displaying sequential hermaphroditism, transforming into a male. This sudden change brings out an aggressive side to Dren, leading to the rape of Elsa. Splice Movie Plot
Clive and Elsa, genetic engineers at N.E.R.D., have been working on splicing animal DNA to create hybrids for medical use. However, their employers forbid them from creating a human-animal hybrid, and instead order them to extract proteins from their latest creation, Fred and Ginger. Ignoring their orders, Clive and Elsa secretly create a viable female hybrid named Dren, who ages rapidly and mentally develops like a human child. Elsa persuades Clive to let Dren live, and the couple forms a bond with the creature.
However, things take a dark turn when Dren reveals her carnivorous tendencies and seduces and rapes Clive. When Dren is discovered to contain human DNA, Clive, and Elsa attempt to terminate her, but she attacks and kills them. In the end, Elsa is offered a large sum of money to carry Dren's child to term.
