Spy Kids is a franchise created by Robert Rodriguez that revolves around the adventures of two siblings, Carmen and Juni Cortez, who get involved in their parents' spy organization. The movies feature Latino themes, influenced by Rodriguez's Mexican heritage, and draw inspiration from the James Bond franchise. The spy agency in the films is named OSS, a reference to the real-life Office of Strategic Services, a former intelligence organization in the US. The character Donnagon Giggles is a nod to William Joseph Donovan, the director of the original OSS. While the initials of the spy organization are not explicitly stated in the movies, one of the books reveals that they stand for the Organization of Super Spies.

1. Antonio Banderas (Gregorio Cortez)
Antonio Banderas is a celebrated actor who gained popularity for his roles in films such as Philadelphia, Interview With the Vampire, Evita, and The Mask of Zorro. In 2001, Banderas took on the role of Gregorio Cortez in the movie Spy Kids. He played the father of the Cortez family, a spy who uses cutting-edge technology in his work, and is married to his former spy rival, Ingrid Cortez (Carla Gugino). After the success of Spy Kids, Banderas reprised his role of Gregorio in two sequels, Spy Kids 2: Island of Lost Dreams and Spy Kids 3-D: Game Over. He continued to work on family-friendly films, lending his voice to Puss in Boots in the Shrek movies, and also returned to his earlier role in The Legend of Zorro. Banderas has added to his filmography with roles in Machete Kills, The Expendables 3, Knight of Cups, The Laundromat, Dolittle, and Uncharted. In 2020, he received his first Best Actor Oscar nomination for Pain and Glory and reprised his role of Puss in Boots in Puss in Boots: The Last Wish in 2022. 2. Carla Gugino (Ingrid Cortez)
Carla Gugino is an American actress who played Ingrid Cortez, a spy, and the wife of Gregorio Cortez, in Spy Kids. She rose to fame for her TV work, including her roles in Falcon Crest, Doogie Howser, M.D., The Buccaneers, and Spin City. Gugino continued to play Ingrid in two of the Spy Kids sequels and reunited with the director, Robert Rodriguez, in Sin City. She appeared in Night at the Museum, American Gangster, and Righteous Kill, and lent her voice to Man of Steel. After taking a break from TV, she returned to star as Amanda on Entourage and Abby on Californication. She also appeared in The Brink and Wayward Pines, starred as the titular character in the Cinemax series Jett, and featured in Mike Flanagan's Netflix horror series, The Haunting of Hill House, The Haunting of Bly Manor, and Midnight Mass.
3. Alexa PenaVega (Carmen Cortez)
Alexa PenaVega, previously known as Alexa Vega, played Carmen Cortez, the oldest child of Ingrid and Gregorio and Juni's sister, in Spy Kids. PenaVega started her acting career at a young age and appeared in episodes of Evening Shade when she was just 5 years old. She also appeared in Little Giants, Twister, and episodes of Life's Work and To Have & to Hold before taking on the role of Carmen. After Spy Kids, she reprised her role in the sequels and also appeared in Sleepover and the short-lived ABC Family series Ruby & the Rockits. In 2014, she married Carlos Pena of Big Time Rush fame and the couple changed their last names to PenaVega. She competed in the 21st season of Dancing With the Stars and played Kiley on ABC's Nashville. She and Carlos have three children, a podcast called What's the Point?, and a book called What If Love Is the Point? She has also starred in the musical dramedy Mighty Oak and a slew of Hallmark TV movies, including the Picture Perfect Mysteries series.
4. Daryl Sabara
Juni Cortez Daryl Sabara played the role of Juni Cortez in the Spy Kids franchise. Before this, he had a three-episode arc on Murphy Brown and made appearances on Roswell and Will & Grace. He returned as Juni in the Spy Kids sequels and went on to appear in shows like Friends, Criminal Minds, Weeds, Resident Advisors, and Ultimate Spider-Man. Sabara also voiced multiple characters on Ben 10 and in films like The Polar Express and A Christmas Carol. In 2018, Sabara married pop singer Meghan Trainor, and they had their first child in 2021.
5. Alan Cumming
Fegan Floop Alan Cumming played the role of Fegan Floop in the Spy Kids franchise. With nearly 30 years of experience, Cumming had previously appeared in various stage productions as well as onscreen projects like GoldenEye, Romy and Michele's High School Reunion, Eyes Wide Shut, and Get Carter. He played Floop twice more in the sequels and appeared in shows like Shoebox Zoo, The L Word, and Robot Chicken. Cumming received an Emmy nomination for his role as Eli Gold in The Good Wife, which he reprised in season 6 of the spin-off series The Good Fight. He currently serves as host of the Peacock reality competition series The Traitors.
6. George Clooney
Devlin George Clooney played the role of Devlin in the Spy Kids franchise. The leading man found his role in the family-friendly flick as the leader of the OSS agency who calls on Gregorio and Ingrid to complete a mission. Clooney signed on for the gig after wrapping his run on ER and picking up credits for shows like The Facts of Life, Roseanne, Batman & Robin, and Three Kings. Clooney's career continued to grow, and he went on to receive five Academy Award nominations, winning Best Supporting Actor for Syriana and Best Picture as a producer for Argo. In 2014, Clooney married human rights lawyer Amal Alamuddin and has since starred in films like Hail, Caesar!, The Midnight Sky, and Ticket to Paradise.
7. Teri Hatcher
Ms. Gradenko Teri Hatcher played the role of Ms. Gradenko in the Spy Kids franchise. She took the role fresh off of her Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman days. Hatcher played a villain masquerading as a hero for the Cortez children, revealing her true colors as the movie continues. Soon after Spy Kids arrived in theaters, Hatcher landed one of her biggest roles, playing Susan on Desperate Housewives from 2004 to 2012. She also lent her voice to Coraline and appeared in an episode of Smallville. Hatcher had a recurring role on Jane by Design, a voice role in Jake and the Never Land Pirates, an appearance on the CW's Supergirl, and a starring role in Hallmark's A Kiss Before Christmas.

Felix Gumm Cheech Marin played the role of Felix Gumm in the Spy Kids franchise. He played the "uncle" to Juni and Carmen, an agent who is actually there to help protect the family. Spy Kids Plot
The Spy Kids movie emphasizes the importance of family unity and the negative consequences of keeping secrets from loved ones. The film also explores themes of sibling rivalry, responsibility, and Latino heritage. After a ten-year retirement from espionage, Gregorio and Ingrid are called back into service, leaving their children with their uncle Felix. Carmen and Juni discover their parents' past and decide to rescue them, enlisting the help of their genius inventor uncle and redeeming a TV show host. Together, they stop the evil plan of creating an army of child-like androids and save the world from the villainous Mr. Lisp and Ms. Gradenko.
