If you're playing Starfield, you'll encounter the "Alternating Currents" quest. This quest follows the "Tapping The Grid" quest and deals with a power issue in The Well area of the game. Here's a step-by-step guide on how to successfully complete it.
Locating the Junction Boxes
When you reach the "Alternating Currents" quest, you've likely already found some junction boxes during the "Tapping The Grid" quest. Follow Louisa to the Trade Authority's office in The Well. Zoe Kaminski will explain that the power issue isn't their fault. She'll then ask you to find a few more junction boxes to help locate the source of the power drain. Once the conversation ends, use your Scanner and look at the ground. You'll find a trail leading you directly to the mentioned box. This is the easiest way to reach it. Remember, "Alternating Currents" needs to be your active quest for the trail to lead to the box.
After activating the first switch, Louisa and Zoe will ask you to activate different boxes. Zoe's box is closer, while you'll have to go a bit farther to reach Louisa's box. The quest's outcome doesn't change based on your choice, so pick the box that's easier for you to access.
Finally, the third box you need to activate will be next to an apartment building on the surface. Once you flip this switch, you'll be asked to go up the building and investigate a specific apartment, marked with a blue icon.
Getting the Evidence

Simply click on "Download Files" to obtain the evidence and progress the quest. No one will be in the apartment while you're there, so feel free to look around and pick up any items you want. Keep in mind, though, that if you're caught with a Bounty on your head, these items will be taken away.
Who Should You Give the Evidence To?
Before you acquire the evidence from the apartment building, Zoe will call you and mention that she'd like you to give the evidence to her instead of Louisa. In terms of rewards, your choice doesn't make much difference because you'll receive the same rewards (2,000 Credits) either way. You're free to choose who you want to give the evidence to. Keep these things in mind:
Remember, Trade Authority is one of the few vendors in the game who will let you sell stolen items or contraband. Fortunately, this isn't affected by your choice, so you can still sell these items to them even if you give the evidence to Louisa.
