Starfield First Contact Quest Guide

In the "First Contact" quest in Starfield, players are presented with a series of choices that will significantly impact the outcome of the mission.

As you venture into the Porrima system within the world of Starfield, you're bound to encounter rumors of an enigmatic spacecraft stationed above one of the planets.

This vessel has made little to no discernible effort to establish communication with the world below, and its technological state seems significantly antiquated. As you may be aware, this marks the inception of the First Contact mission in the Starfield universe.

How to Complete the First Contact Mission in Starfield?

Heading to the Porrima System

Located a few solar systems to the right of Alpha Centauri, players can find the Porrima system, home to Porrima 2, renowned for its Paradiso vacation resort. Here, they receive a distress call from Jiro Sugiyama, the chief of security, who implores them to land on the planet's surface and assist with a mysterious threat unsettling the residents.

Alternatively, players can attempt to hail the unidentified ship from orbit, but they receive no response on their communications. Nevertheless, they can approach the ship, dock with it, and conduct their own investigation before engaging with security chief Sugiyama.

Investigating The Ship

Onboard the enigmatic spacecraft, players won't discover aliens, but instead, they encounter humans who have been traversing space for two centuries. This vessel, known as the ECS Constant, has hosted generations of humans who set out in 2100 on a mission to discover a new inhabitable planet. However, their technological progress stagnated over the years, and upon their arrival, they found the planet already colonized.

Captain Brackenridge requests the player's assistance in negotiating with Paradiso CEO Oliver Campbell, who desires the planet for colonization. As a diplomat, the player faces the challenge of finding a resolution that may not please everyone. This prompts them to return to Porrima 2 and negotiate with Oliver Campbell regarding the ECS Constant.

Negotiating With Oliver Campbell

Upon returning to the planet, players must visit the Paradiso Hotel and proceed to the Executive Floor, gaining clearance from Keavy Andreas to initiate a meeting with Mister Campbell. During the meeting, board members Balam and Salim propose resettling the orbiting colonists in Paradiso, subjecting them to servitude to repay their debts and share the planet with other humans. While this might appear to be a logical choice for employment and sharing resources, corporate servitude isn't everyone's preference. They also suggest upgrading the outdated ship with a modern Grav Drive, a costly endeavor.

Lastly, the CEO suggests a more sinister solution, implying the elimination of the colonists, the darkest option on the table. Players must now make a choice regarding the First Contact quest in Starfield.

Option 1: Purchase a Grav Drive (Best Option)

The morally just choice is to buy a Grav Drive for the ECS Constant. While this may be expensive, it aligns with the player's role as a hero in their story, avoiding the destruction of the ship or the enslavement of its passengers. Players can leave the hotel and consult with Bennu St. James at HopeTech, located on planet Polvo in the Valo system.

Since Grav Drives were not available when the ECS Constant launched, retrofitting one into the ancient ship comes with a substantial cost of 40,000 Credits. However, players with Persuade skills can negotiate the price down to 25,000 Credits. Afterward, players head to the ECS Constant's Engineering bay to assist in preparing the ship for the Grav Drive by completing several tasks, ensuring a successful installation. Captain Brackenridge rewards players with Antique Earth items that can fetch a high price with the right vendor.

Option 2: Settlement Deal – Indentured Servants

This option forces the colonists into indentured servitude to Paradiso, where they work in exchange for food, shelter, and a sense of belonging. Despite its seemingly peaceful nature, players must gather specific resources to proceed with this decision, including Fiber, Sealant, Iron, and Lithium. This choice does not satisfy the crew, and even the ECS Constant expresses displeasure. It's the only option to settle the ECS Constant on Porrima 2 but may not be suitable for the colonists.

Option 3: Overload The Reactor And Blow Up The Ship

Oliver suggests that overloading the ship's reactor could lead to its self-destruction, eliminating the colonists and the Paradiso board members' financial concerns. This choice is morally questionable and opposed by followers and companions.

To execute this plan, players must steal a key from the chief engineer, Amin Kazemi, and access the Reactor Terminal. After initiating the Reactor Overdrive, players must hack the Captain's Terminal to confirm the self-destruct sequence. There is no turning back, and players must either fight their way out or escape to their ship. This decision results in the demise of the ECS Constant's crew and ship.

Returning to Oliver, players receive a reward of 6,500 Credits and unlimited access to the resort, although attempting to negotiate for more credits will yield no success.

Where To Find ECS Constant (After Choosing Option 1)

If players choose to purchase a Grav Drive, they can later locate the ECS Constant in the galaxy. By tracking it from their Activity mission log and ensuring they have a capable Grav Drive (at least 22LY range), they can follow the ship's endless voyage across uncharted planets. Players may discover additional missions related to the ECS Constant in Starfield.

In conclusion, the First Contact quest in Starfield offers players a significant decision with moral implications, affecting the lives of the colonists and their fate aboard the ECS Constant."

Starfield Gameplay

Starfield presents an action-packed role-playing gaming experience, seamlessly allowing players to shift between first-person and third-person perspectives at any point. The game unfolds within an expansive open world situated within the Milky Way galaxy, incorporating a blend of both fictional and real planetary systems. This dynamic universe offers access to over 1,000 planets, accompanied by an undisclosed quantity of moons and space stations for exploration and landing. The game employs procedural generation for most landscapes, which serve as a foundation enriched by handcrafted elements.

Terrain, alien flora, and fauna emerge uniquely for each planet based on its star system, atmosphere, and proximity to points of interest as players approach. New Atlantis, the game's most extensive fictional city, stands as a remarkable achievement in Bethesda's design. Traversing this realm, players cross paths with diverse non-playable characters (NPCs) who may become part of their crew, contributing to combat, item management, communication, and narrative choices. The player's custom-built outposts accommodate crew members, each endowed with distinctive skills and even the potential for romantic interactions.

Character customization at the game's outset shapes the silent protagonist, impacting body type, appearance, background, and traits, with various starting skills associated with chosen backgrounds. Progression introduces traits that can either aid or challenge players, some of which can be altered through quests or specific actions. As players accrue experience, they advance in levels, unlocking abilities across five distinct skill trees encompassing Physical, Social, Combat, Science, and Tech disciplines. Each skill improves through the completion of related challenges.

The game boasts an array of customizable firearms, explosives, and melee weapons, as well as jetpacks known as boostpacks that facilitate combat and traversal across challenging terrains. Celestial bodies exert variable gravitational forces on players upon landing, influencing combat dynamics. Prior to landing, players can scan planets to assess their natural resources, which play a pivotal role in crafting recipes. Constructible outposts serve as homes and resource extraction hubs, equipped with research laboratories for crafting items and upgrades across Pharmacology, Food & Drink, Outpost Development, Equipment, and Weaponry categories.

Spaceships emerge as integral components, obtainable through construction, purchase, or commandeering. Spaceports on planets facilitate parts acquisition, repairs, and trade. The modular ship customization system empowers players to modify central components, rooms, facilities, paint, decorations, and weaponry. Ship size affects storage, living space, speed, and jump range. Ship combat involves strategic power allocation and boarding of both hostile and peaceful NPC-piloted vessels, offering various interaction choices. The universe of Starfield beckons with boundless opportunities, inviting players to immerse themselves in its vastness and intricacies.
