Starfield
Starfield, a 2023 action role-playing game, is the creation of Bethesda Game Studios and is published by Bethesda Softworks. Players embark on a space exploration journey, joining a group of adventurers on a quest to uncover mysterious artifacts scattered across the galaxy. The game unfolds in an open-world setting situated within the Milky Way, featuring both fictional and real planetary systems.
Set in a space-themed environment, Starfield marks Bethesda's first new intellectual property in 25 years. Director Todd Howard likened it to "Skyrim in space." Utilizing the Creation Engine, albeit extensively modified for the game's procedural generation system, Starfield entered active development after the release of Fallout 4 in 2015.
Despite facing multiple delays since its announcement in 2018, Starfield finally launched on September 6, 2023, for Windows and Xbox Series X/S. Critically acclaimed, the game earned positive reviews for its expansive open world, captivating setting, and impressive soundtrack. However, opinions on its story and exploration elements were more varied among players and critics alike.

Starfield Gameplay
Starfield is an action role-playing video game that offers players the flexibility to seamlessly switch between first-person and third-person perspectives. Set in an expansive open world within the Milky Way galaxy, the game comprises both fictional and real planetary systems, featuring over 1,000 planets, numerous moons, and various space stations available for exploration and landing.
Procedurally generated landscapes, influenced by the star's system, atmosphere, and points of interest, complement modified and handcrafted content. New Atlantis, the game's largest fictional city developed by Bethesda, stands as a prominent urban hub. Throughout the exploration of the game world, players interact with non-playable characters (NPCs), some of whom can join the player's crew.
These NPCs contribute to combat, carry items, act as intermediaries in conversations, and offer insights on player choices. Crew members can be stationed at player-constructed outposts, each bringing unique skills and abilities. Additionally, certain recruitable NPCs can engage in romantic relationships with the player. The game commences with character customization, allowing players to design their silent protagonist by selecting body type, appearance, facial features, background, and traits.
Background choices grant three starting skills, while progressing in the game unlocks additional traits that can be advantageous or challenging. For example, the Introvert trait enhances endurance when traveling alone but diminishes it when accompanied by a companion. Traits are alterable through quests or specific actions. As players advance, they accumulate experience, leveling up and gaining access to abilities within five distinct skill trees: Physical, Social, Combat, Science, and Tech. Skill advancement occurs through the completion of related challenges.
Starfield Plot
Two decades post the Colony War, an uneasy peace prevails between the United Colonies and the Freestar Collective. Assuming the role of a space miner employed by Argos Extractors, commissioned by the Constellation, a renowned group of galactic explorers, the player embarks on a mission to unearth a mysterious Artifact with gravitational anomalies. A temporal and spatial vision follows the extraction, propelling the player into an intriguing journey. After defending against a Crimson Fleet attack, delivering the Artifact to Constellation's Lodge in New Atlantis, and joining their quest, the player aligns with factions like the UC Vanguard and Freestar Rangers.
Throughout the quest for Artifacts, the player encounters an anomaly linked to a stronger Artifact presence. Activating an ancient temple grants the player unique powers. Joining Constellation's member Walter Stroud, the player retrieves an Artifact from Neon, facing an unknown entity named "Starborn." The Starborn's demand for the Artifact escalates Constellation's mission, introducing competition. To expand scanning capabilities, the player aids in fixing The Eye but faces a critical choice between defending The Eye or Constellation's Lodge, resulting in a member's death.
Following clues, Constellation confronts the Hunter and the Emissary, discovering the Starborn's human origin from a parallel universe. The Unity, the center of the universe and gateway to parallel worlds, becomes the coveted prize. Excited about exploring parallel universes, Constellation competes with the Starborn. Retrieving the remaining Artifacts, the player decides whether to aid the Hunter, Emissary, or remain neutral. Regardless, the player confronts the Starborn at the buried temple, reaching the Unity and encountering a parallel version of themselves. This version reveals that entering the Unity transforms the player into Starborn, leaving their native universe behind to restart the storyline in a parallel universe devoid of possessions or relationships.
