Most of the places in the game are created by the computer, depending on the star and its atmosphere, with some special places made by people.

The game has a really big city called New Atlantis. While you explore, you meet other characters, some of whom can join your group. These characters can help you in fights, carry things, talk to others for you, and react to the choices you make. Some of them can even be your special friend. In the beginning, you make your own character, and you can choose how they look and what they're good at.

As you play, your character gets better and can do more things, and you can choose what skills they learn. You can use different kinds of weapons to fight enemies, and most weapons can be changed with extra parts. You also have a jetpack to help you move around. When you're on a planet, how heavy you are depends on the planet's size, and that can change how you fight.

Before you land on a planet, you can scan it to see what resources are there, like metal or fuel. You need these resources to make things. You can build your own places and labs to make new stuff and improve things in five categories: Medicine, Food and drink, Building, Gear, and Weapons. You can build things from two different views. You can have your own spaceship in the game.

You can buy, build, or take over other spaceships. You can also change your ship's parts, colors, and weapons. Some ships are big and can hold a lot of things, but they are slower. Others are faster but smaller. You can even fight with your ship and go into other ships to fight or take them. You can steal things, talk to people, trade, or fight on other ships.

Starfield Plot

In Starfield's story, it's been 20 years since the Colony War, and there's an uneasy peace between the United Colonies and Freestar Collective. You play as a space miner for Argos Extractors, hired by the mysterious Constellation group to find an unusual Artifact with strange powers buried underground. After extracting it, you have a vision that sends you through time and space. When you wake up, your client is coming to collect the Artifact.

You defend the mining operation from an attack by the Crimson Fleet and then head to New Atlantis, the capital of the United Colonies, to deliver the Artifact to the Constellation Lodge. From there, you join Constellation in their quest to find more Artifacts, which are a big mystery.

As you go on your journey, you can join different groups like the UC Vanguard and the Freestar Rangers. Later, you find more Artifacts and discover an ancient temple with special powers. You help Constellation collect more Artifacts but face a powerful being called the Starborn, who wants the Artifacts. Constellation escapes with the Artifacts, and you learn that the Starborn are from a parallel universe.

The Starborn reveals that whoever collects all the Artifacts in a universe can reach "Unity," which is like a gateway to other parallel universes. Constellation wants to beat the Starborn to it. You travel to Earth and learn how the Artifacts are connected to the destruction of Earth's magnetosphere. Then, you must choose to help the Hunter, the Emissary, or neither.

Regardless of your choice, you collect the remaining Artifacts and confront the Starborn. After winning, you reach the Unity and meet a version of yourself from another universe. They explain that you'll become Starborn but leave your old life behind, allowing you to restart your journey in a new parallel universe.
