European Cricket League
The European Cricket League (ECL) is a cricket league where clubs from European countries compete in the Ten10 format. The league was established in 2018 with the aim of promoting and growing cricket in Europe. Each participating club represents their respective country as champions of their domestic tournaments. The first edition of the tournament was held in 2019 at La Manga Club in Spain, featuring eight clubs.
VOC Rotterdam emerged as the champions, defeating SG Findorff by 101 runs in the final. The tournament garnered extensive viewership, with live TV coverage and streaming in over 120 countries, reaching more than 140 million households through 40 different broadcasters. The ECL has had two editions so far, with the most recent one taking place in 2022 and involving 30 teams. European Cricket League Board
Frank Leenders and Thomas Klooz, both members of the ECL board, previously worked together on the marketing team of the UEFA Champions League. They joined TEAM Marketing (Team Event and Media Marketing) in 1992 and played significant roles in the rebranding of the UEFA Champions League during its early years. Over time, Leenders became the managing director and a member of the Board of Directors, while Klooz advanced to the position of CEO at TEAM Marketing and also served on the board of directors.
The CEO of ECL, Roger Feiner, has a background as a former Director of Broadcasting at FIFA from 1999 to 2002. During his tenure, he was responsible for overseeing global TV rights and TV broadcasting for various FIFA events, including the FIFA Confederation Cup in Mexico in 1999 and the 2002 FIFA World Cup held in Japan/Korea. Feiner's experience and expertise in broadcasting have contributed to the development and success of ECL.
