System Shock, a captivating action-adventure game, has been brought to life by Nightdive Studios and published by Prime Matter. Their mission? To thwart the nefarious plans of a malevolent artificial intelligence known as SHODAN. The journey to recreate System Shock began in 2015, with the game initially being developed using the Unity engine. Thanks to a highly successful Kickstarter campaign that raised over $1 million in funding, the development process spanned nearly eight years.

This lengthy timeline was marked by several delays, primarily due to the decision to switch to Unreal Engine and the subsequent restart of development on two separate occasions. The team's ambitious attempt to reboot the series was abandoned due to excessive feature creep. Ultimately, the final version of the game focused on faithfully remaking the original title and delivering on the promises made during the Kickstarter campaign.

System Shock Remake Walkthrough

After the cutscene, you regain consciousness in the first level of System Shock Remake, known as the Infirmary. As you wake up, you find yourself in a room called the Infirmary, lying on a bed. Ahead of you, there is a slope leading downwards. Descend the slope and reach a button that you can interact with. When you press the button, a nearby door opens. Proceed through the door.

In the next room, equip your pipe and eliminate any enemies that come your way. Once you've dealt with the enemies, take a moment to familiarize yourself with the surroundings. Locate a surgical machine and a charging station in the room. Interact with the surgical machine to improve your condition, replenishing your health and abilities. Remember this spot in the level, as you can return here to restore your health and powers whenever needed.

In the same room, you will find a hatch to the south near the charging station. Crouch down and enter the hatch to access the reception area. Inside the reception, approach the desk and retrieve a digital document. The document contains a code: 451.

Before leaving the room, you'll notice a camera hanging from the ceiling. Cameras can be identified by the orange symbols on your map. Destroy all the cameras you come across to weaken Shodan's presence and unlock shortcuts.

Now, use the code you found earlier (451) to unlock a door and proceed. On the other side of the door, use your access card to unlock another door opposite you. Inside, on a shelf, you'll find a blue access card. Take the blue card and exit the room. In the hallway, pull a lever to open a portal to the north.

Clear the area around the portal and activate the switch to turn on the lights. As the lights come on, you'll notice an entrance near a pillar to the north. Enter the entrance to discover a new weapon lying on the ground. Leave the room and continue down the east hallway until you reach the Gamma Portal. Pull the lever to access a new room. Take care of any threats in the room and enter the door to the south.

Inside this room, interact with the panel on the wall to solve a puzzle. The objective is to power up the panel by aligning the gauge markers. Depending on the level of difficulty, you can refer to a picture solution provided to assist you in solving the puzzle. Once you've successfully powered up the panel, a bridge will extend. Cross the bridge to reach a staircase. Ascend the stairs and continue forward until you reach a restroom. Turn left and proceed through the east passage to find a switch. Activate the switch to make a second bridge appear.

It is important to note that you need to have destroyed enough cameras to activate the lever. Proceed by operating the gravitational elevator, which will create a new bridge in front of you. Cross the bridge, but be cautious as it leads to a trap.

After falling into the trap, enter the airlock located below and use the switches against the wall to access a control room. In the control room, pull the lever to activate an elevator that allows you to return to the upper level. Once you're back above, proceed down the hallway and through the door to the west. Inside, you'll find a resuscitation machine, which will be very useful for your future endeavors.
