Teardown

Teardown is a sandbox-puzzle game released in 2022 by Tuxedo Labs, where players step into the shoes of the owner of a struggling demolition company. The game unfolds as the protagonist, caught up in a questionable job, becomes entangled in police investigations while navigating through dubious assignments.

Set in a fictional Löckelle Municipality, the player faces financial hardships and accepts jobs involving heists, demolitions, and espionage. The game features destructible voxel-based levels, allowing players to use a variety of tools and vehicles to create paths and complete objectives within a time limit.

Developed with a proprietary game engine by Dennis Gustafsson, Teardown gained popularity during its early access phase, praised for its physics, graphics, and interactive gameplay. The game offers a campaign with 40 missions, where players can adjust difficulty settings and utilize upgradable tools. Outside the campaign, players can explore unlocked levels in Sandbox mode, design custom levels in Creative mode, and engage in challenge modes.

Teardown Gameplay

Teardown gameplay revolves around a first-person perspective in a sandbox environment with puzzle elements. Set in destructible voxel-based levels, players navigate through nine freely explorable locations, using tools to manipulate and destroy the game world. The game begins with basic tools like a sledgehammer, fire extinguisher, and spraycan, and as players progress through the campaign, they unlock additional tools such as a blowtorch, shotgun, bombs, and a rocket launcher. Upgradable tools can be obtained by collecting cash scattered throughout levels, earned by demolishing structures and finding valuables.

Missions in Teardown involve completing various objectives, with some being required and others optional. Most missions revolve around stealing or destroying specific objects connected to a security alarm, triggering a countdown. Players must then swiftly complete objectives and reach a getaway vehicle within sixty seconds.

The game offers a mix of challenge modes, including Mayhem, Hunted, and Fetch, each providing unique tasks and objectives. Beyond the campaign, players can explore levels in Sandbox mode, design their own levels in Creative mode, and adjust difficulty settings for a customized experience. The game's physics, interactivity, and support for mods have contributed to its positive reception and longevity in the gaming community.

Teardown Plot

Teardown unfolds its plot in the fictional Löckelle Municipality, where players take on the role of the owner of Löckelle Teardown Services, a financially struggling demolition company. The narrative begins when the owner accepts a dubious job from Gordon Woo to demolish a building for the construction of Evertides Mall.

However, trouble arises as the razed building was under cultural heritage protection, leading to a police investigation. To avoid legal consequences, the owner collaborates with criminal investigator Parisa Terdiman, infiltrating Lawrence Lee Junior's company, Lee Chemicals, to uncover information about a mystery client. The story involves a complex web of corporate intrigue, with the player undertaking heists, espionage, and demolition missions.

As the narrative unfolds, the player discovers that the mystery client is BlueTide, an energy drink producer led by Mr. Amanatides. The owner's involvement deepens as they assist Amanatides in enhancing BlueTide's security against rival schemes. The plot takes unexpected turns involving revenge plots, the creation of a destructive machine called the Truxterminator, and a town's peril due to the player's actions.
