The Kitchen Ending Explained

In the middle of the movie, Izi thinks about giving up his eagerly awaited single-room apartment so both him and Benji could stay together. However, he decides to keep the place for himself, leaving Benji in the neighborhood. Later, while Izi is in his room, the police raid the Kitchen, attacking people to force them out and make way for the plans of private owners.

The following day, mourners from the Kitchen attend Lord Kitchener's service at Life After Life, where Izi works. The mourners singing and welcoming Izi make him change his mind, and he decides to let Benji live with him. Meanwhile, Benji joins other displaced Kitchen residents in a counter-strike against the upper-class Burlington Arcade.

In between scenes of mourners singing, youth Staples and his friends destroy windows and fancy flats. Benji, frightened, goes back home, where Izi apologizes and brings him to live in his single-room apartment. As they look at cheerful images on the screen, a pounding sound grows louder. In the final shot, people burst through the door as Izi turns around to face them.

The Kitchen Plot

"Izi, played by Kane Robinson, lives in a place called the Kitchen, which is like a futuristic neighborhood. It looks a bit strange, with buildings stacked on top of each other, similar to an old place called Kowloon Walled City in Hong Kong. The Kitchen is far from the main part of London and is where poor people live. The police often come there and do very tough and violent things. Izi works at a special place called Life After Life, which does funerals in a unique way. Families who can't afford regular burials can have their loved ones turned into trees for planting.

Izi thinks that soon the government will take over the Kitchen, so people are getting ready to leave. Izi usually keeps to himself, not having many friends, but everything changes when he meets a boy named Benji, played by Jedaiah Bannerman. Benji is all alone after losing his parents, and he starts following Izi. They become friends, and Izi's plans to leave the Kitchen get complicated. As they face more problems with the police and things in the Kitchen get worse, Izi and Benji stick together, learning how to face challenges and take care of each other."
