The Legend of Dragoon Gameplay
The Legend of Dragoon has three different ways to play: the area map, the field, and the battle screen. When you're on the area map, you follow set paths in a 3D world. At the end of these paths, there are places to visit like towns and dungeons. As you go through the game, more paths open up for you to explore. On the field map, you can move around in fully detailed versions of the areas you've seen on the world map. You can chat with characters and move the story forward.
In battles, you can have up to three characters fighting at once. Each character can do things like attack, heal, use items, or run away. When you choose to attack, there's a special move called "addition." You need to press a button at the right time to make your attack stronger. Characters can learn different additions that get longer and more powerful, but they also give enemies a chance to hit back.
As you play, your characters can get special powers called Dragoon Spirits. This lets them transform into powerful Dragoon forms during battles. They get wings and can float in the air. Dragoon form boosts their strength and makes them resistant to damage. They can use special Dragoon attacks and magic in this form, but it only lasts for a limited time and needs to be recharged.
When you're not fighting, you can use a menu to check your characters' status, use items and special abilities, save the game, and choose which additional attack to use in battle.
The Legend of Dragoon Plot
The Legend of Dragoon happens in a world called "Endiness," which looks like the Middle Ages but has magic, swords, and dragons. In this world, there are different kinds of creatures, including humans, dragons, and Winglies. Humans were once enslaved by the aggressive Winglies, but they became Dragoons with the help of dragons and freed themselves. The game has nine main characters, like Dart, who's searching for the Black Monster, and Shana, Dart's childhood friend. Rose teaches Dart to be a Dragoon, and Albert is the king of Basil with his loyal knight Lavitz. There are others like Meru, Kongol, Haschel, and Miranda with their own stories.
The story begins with Dart returning to his hometown and being attacked by a dragon. He's saved by Rose, who tells him that the Sandora army has attacked his town. After rescuing his friend Shana with Lavitz's help, they set out to protect their city. During a surprise attack, Dart gains the power to become a Dragoon. They travel to Lohan and discover that Lloyd kidnapped King Albert and took a precious artifact. They later defeat Lloyd, who reveals a dark secret about a powerful creature, the God of Destruction. Shana is linked to this creature, and the group must stop it from returning. The story involves battles, ancient artifacts, and a reunion with Dart's long-lost father, Zieg Feld. In the end, they must face the ultimate evil and make sacrifices to save their world.
