But, "The Mummy" didn't do well. Critics didn't like it, and it didn't make as much money as it cost to make and advertise. In fact, it lost a lot of money, around $95 million. Because of this, the Dark Universe idea was stopped. The movie premiered in Australia in May 2017 and in the United States in June 2017. Despite having famous actors like Tom Cruise and Russell Crowe, it didn't become a success, and the plan for a shared universe with other monster movies was abandoned due to its failure.

The Mummy 2017 Ending Explained

In the end of 2017 movie "The Mummy," after defeating the Mummy, Ahmanet, her body is locked away in a special vault, and the main character, Nick, goes on a journey to find a cure for a curse he has. There's a group called Prodigium led by a man named Henry, and they were like a secret organization keeping an eye on Nick.

This organization, Prodigium, was meant to be like the secret group, and it was set up to be a big part of the Dark Universe. Nick got special powers from a god named Set, and the movie was kind of like his origin story.

The plan was to have other classic monsters like the Invisible Man and Frankenstein's Monster join in, and they would have adventures together. But, the Dark Universe plan got canceled early, so we'll never see those big plans happen.

The Mummy 2017 Review

"The Mummy" movie is not quite the traditional scary mummy story. Instead of focusing on ancient curses, it's more like a superhero movie. There are some fun moments, but overall, the film is a bit messy. The plot feels like it's made up of different ideas patched together.

Tom Cruise plays Nick Morton, a soldier who gets mixed up with a mummy's curse. The story takes us from Iraq to London, with some puzzling parts about ancient tombs and jewels. Russell Crowe also appears as a strange character. While Cruise gives it his all, the plot doesn't quite keep up. It tries to make him a hero but also hints at something more sinister. The action scenes are there, but they could have been better.
