The Walking Dead ending explained

The final conflict in The Walking Dead involved the characters we had come to know and the corrupt ruler of the Commonwealth, Pamela (played by Laila Robins). However, the way this conflict played out in terms of the plot was not as interesting as what it represented for the world at large. Maggie (played by Lauren Cohan) and Negan (played by Jeffrey Dean Morgan) had planned to shoot Pamela from a distance, which would have been typical of The Walking Dead's prior seasons. But instead, Daryl (played by Norman Reedus) delivers a rushed yet illuminating speech that cuts through the chaos. He tells Pamela that the problem with the Commonwealth was that she had built it to be like the old world. Daryl then opens the gates to save the people who are trapped outside, and everyone is rescued despite Pamela's attempts to let the walkers take her. Maggie protects Pamela from a walker, rather than killing her, and the rest of the group blows up the remaining walkers to save the community. In the previous episode, young Judith survived a gunshot wound while Rosita was bitten during a fight with walkers. Despite her injury, Rosita manages to have a final dinner with her friends before passing away. In the closing moments of the episode, Rick and Michonne make an appearance. Both are alone and searching for their families while writing letters and reminiscing about their missing loved ones. However, this scene felt more like a setup for their spin-off show than a meaningful resolution to any storylines in The Walking Dead.

What is the ending of The Walking Dead?

After over ten years of violence, gore, and post-apocalyptic drama, the series finale of AMC's The Walking Dead unfolds in the following manner. Despite the zombie apocalypse ending, the series finale is neither peaceful nor restful. The majority of the final episode deals with resolving the Commonwealth storyline from season 11, with Daryl Dixon joining Mercer and other allies to overthrow Pamela Milton's control over the community. However, the last few minutes of the episode shift focus to larger matters, such as setting up upcoming spin-offs, pairing up main characters, featuring significant cameos, and more.
