Players take on the role of Bigby Wolf, the sheriff of Fabletown, a hidden community of fantastical characters from fairy tales and folklore in 1980s New York City. The game's plot revolves around Bigby's investigation of a series of mysterious murders, which are the first to occur in Fabletown for a long time.

Critics and fans have largely praised The Wolf Among Us, which has gained a devoted following. Telltale announced plans for a second season of the game in 2017, but the studio faced financial difficulties and ultimately closed down in 2018. LCG Entertainment acquired Telltale's assets and will release a sequel to The Wolf Among Us, called The Wolf Among Us 2, under the Telltale Games name in 2024, as announced in December 2019.

The Wolf Among Us Ending Explained

The Wolf Among Us has recently concluded its first season, and its ending is worth discussing. Similar to The Walking Dead, the decisions made throughout the game culminate in a few pivotal choices that will determine the future of the series. How players act as Bigby Wolf will influence how Fabletown's residents perceive him and the government.

The big twist in the Season 1 finale involves Nerissa, who tells Bigby that she made up the story about The Crooked Man talking about killing Faith or Lily. Furthermore, Nerissa reveals that the person Bigby had mistaken for her was actually Faith, who had been manipulating him all along. The player's ultimate decision is whether to pursue Nerissa/Faith or let her go. The appeal of The Wolf Among Us lies in its exploration of murky ethical areas where there are no clear right or wrong decisions.

It's true that The Crooked Man was probably responsible for a lot of bad things in Fabletown, but Bigby could only impose punishment because of Nerissa's proof. The majority of what Bigby had to say regarding The Crooked Man being involved before she arrived was merely hearsay.

The real shocker follows. Nerissa turns to Bigby as she leaves, perhaps to begin a new life someplace else, and says, "You're not as bad as everyone says you are." This immediately brings up a similar exchange between Faith and Bigby in Episode 1 in Bigby's memories, and subsequently in the player's as well. Bigby then realizes that the person he had mistaken for Nerissa isn't Nerissa at all.

Now, this is where things start to get a bit murky. Many people tend to agree that the conclusion implies that Faith had been manipulating Bigby all along in order to bring down The Crooked Man by glamouring herself to resemble Nerissa, glamouring the deceased Nerissa's head to resemble her own, and placing that head-on Bigby's stoop. Faux Nerissa uses the same phrase that Faith did, making that the most likely explanation, for the most part.

And it has always been the appeal of The Wolf Among Us. The difficult decisions in The Walking Dead involved life and death, whereas those in TWAU dealt with a range of murky areas. In the end, there is no "good" or "right" decision; there are just those that Bigby and Fabletown must bear. That sums up why we found The Wolf Among Us to be so captivating in its entirety.

The Wolf Among Us Comic

Bigby Wolf, also known as the Big Bad Wolf, is the Sheriff of Fabletown, a hidden community of fairytale characters in 1980s New York City. He investigates the murder of a prostitute named Faith, who was discovered dead in her apartment. Bigby and Snow White find her head left on the Woodlands doorstep. Clues identify her as a Fable from Allerleirauh. They learn that Faith took up prostitution to pay the bills and that her husband Prince Lawrence is missing.

Crane is accused of her murder, but they discover he was actually embezzling money from Fabletown. The trail leads them to the Crooked Man's lair, where a fight breaks out. Bigby captures the Crooked Man, and he is brought to a fair trial where he is punished. In the epilogue, Snow becomes the new Deputy Mayor, and Bigby sees off the Fables being taken back to the Farm.
