The show was originally developed in September 2014 as a live-action series based on the Teen Titans, and a pilot written by Goldsman and Marc Haimes was ordered in December 2014. However, TNT departed from the project in 2016 before filming could take place. In April 2017, it was announced that the series was being redeveloped by Goldsman, Johns, and Berlanti for DC Universe as its first original scripted program. Thwaites was cast as Dick in September 2017, and other regular cast members were cast between August and October 2017.

Titans premiered on October 12, 2018, with the first and second seasons released on DC Universe. The third and fourth seasons premiered on HBO Max, with the fourth season debuting on November 3, 2022. However, in January 2023, it was reported that the fourth season will be its final season.

Titans Series Ending Explained

In the final episode of Titans, the group gathers for one last dinner in Metropolis, where they reflect on their time together as a team. As they discuss their future plans, younger members express their desire to have a life outside of the Titans. Gar plans to become the champion of the Red, while Rachel wants to experience a "normal" life by attending high school in Bludhaven. Tim intends to balance his responsibilities in both Gotham and Metropolis, while Conner will train with Superman. Dick and Kory decide to start a family. The episode ends with Conner finally receiving a flying lesson from Superman.

Although the series has come to a close, there is still a possibility for a continuation of the story with the same cast if James Gunn decides to include them in his new DCU. While the show had its flaws, such as unnecessary edginess and bad plot points, the cast and production design had real potential, and it would be a shame to see it go to waste.
