Best NBA Players of 2023

The National Basketball Association (NBA) is a professional basketball league consisting of 30 teams (29 based in the United States and 1 in Canada) in Northern America. It is regarded as one of the premier professional sports leagues in the United States and Canada and is considered the top men's professional basketball league in the world. The league was founded on June 6, 1946, in New York City as the Basketball Association of America (BAA) and was renamed the National Basketball Association on August 3, 1949, after merging with the competing National Basketball League (NBL). The NBA merged with the American Basketball Association (ABA) in 1976, adding four franchises to the league. Each team plays 82 games during the NBA's regular season, which takes place from October to April. The league's playoff tournament runs through June. As of 2020, NBA players have the highest average annual salary compared to athletes in any other sport worldwide. The Boston Celtics and the Los Angeles Lakers hold the record for the most NBA championships, with 17 each. The Golden State Warriors are the current league champions, having defeated the Boston Celtics 4-2 in the 2022 NBA Finals at the conclusion of the 2021-22 season.

Who are the Top 10 NBA Players?

Luka Doncic

Choosing Luka over Giannis was an arduous decision, must strongly believe that this year is Luka Doncic's time to shine as the best basketball player. Despite being only 23, Doncic has already established himself as one of the greatest playoff performers in history and has proven his ability to excel in high-pressure games. He has also earned three first-team all-NBA selections, which is more than what Damian Lillard and Kyrie Irving have combined. With the acquisition of Christian Wood in free agency, the Mavericks now have a real weapon in the paint that can support Doncic's game. I anticipate that the Mavericks will continue to make moves during free agency, and with at least the third seed in their grasp, Doncic will have a good chance of winning his first MVP title.

Giannis Antetokounmpo

To firmly believe that had Khris Middleton not been injured in the first round, the Milwaukee Bucks would have defeated the Celtics. Furthermore, that the Bucks would have been a great match against the Warriors and would have had a high probability of winning another championship ring. Giannis' performance on the court is exceptional, making him an unstoppable force. His diligent work ethic and unwavering commitment to excellence make him a strong contender for the MVP title every season. As long as Giannis remains healthy, there is no doubt that he will continue to be a top-tier player in terms of productivity, perhaps even ranking in the top 3.

Stephen Curry

With the addition of a finals MVP, Stephen Curry's resume is now complete, and he has nothing left to prove on the court. He has not shown any signs of regression in his game, at least for the next three years. Currently, Curry is focused on establishing himself as one of the top 5 to top 10 greatest players of all time. The Warriors will likely return with their main core of players, including Klay Thompson, Jordan Poole, and Draymond Green. If Curry remains healthy, he has a genuine chance of earning another MVP title.

Nikola Jokic

Nikola Jokic has achieved back-to-back MVP awards and recorded one of the best seasons in history, making him one of the most exceptional players in the game. Despite his slow and methodical playing style, he is an elite passer with remarkable vision, making him the best passing big man ever. While Jokic could have a shot at another MVP title, voter fatigue may come into play. However, the return of Jamal Murray and Michael Porter Jr. will benefit the Nuggets as a team. Jokic's scoring average may decrease slightly, but his overall productivity is expected to remain relatively constant.

Lebron James

LeBron James has shown no signs of slowing down, despite the Los Angeles Lakers' underwhelming performance last season. He had one of his best seasons in terms of scoring, averaging over 30 points per game, only trailing behind Joel Embiid in terms of points per game. Additionally, LeBron is still recognized as one of the league's top passers and arguably the most versatile defender, provided he is motivated. While it may be unrealistic to expect the same level of success as last year, it is reasonable to believe that the Lakers will make the necessary moves in free agency to become a championship-caliber team once again.

Kevin Durant

Kevin Durant's recent playoff series against the Boston Celtics nearly tarnished his legacy, but he remains one of the best scorers, if not the best, in basketball history. Despite the uncertainty surrounding trade rumors involving Kyrie Irving and Ben Simmons' willingness to play, Durant is expected to maintain his high level of production. He is projected to average at least 27 points per game and be considered for a First-Team All-NBA selection.

Joel Embiid

Ranked at number 7 on my list is Joel Embiid, despite coming off a season where he performed at a historically great level. However, there are certain factors that contribute to this ranking which are not necessarily his fault. Firstly, I anticipate that James Harden will remain on the team next year, and I have little hope that their partnership will work out. Harden has a very ball-dominant style of play, and even though Embiid's numbers have improved in the 21 games he played with Harden, I expect Harden to focus primarily on scoring and try to replicate his days in Houston. Additionally, Embiid has a concerning history of serious injuries, and I am not confident that he will be able to stay healthy for an entire season.

Ja Morant

https://www.instagram.com/p/ChG-WlwOOpT/?hl=en

Last year, Ja Morant was truly remarkable. Despite being an undersized guard, he led the league in points in the paint and showed his potential in the playoffs before being sidelined by an ankle injury. However, there are some concerns about his playing style, which can be reckless and unsustainable, and how much he actually impacts his team's success. The Grizzlies' record without Morant was 21-6, and they even managed to win a playoff game against the Warriors by 39 points without him, which suggests that his absence does not greatly affect their performance. Additionally, there are some worries about Morant's injury history due to his poor landing mechanics. Overall, I expect Morant to have a similar season to his previous one, provided he can avoid injuries.

Jayson Tatum

https://www.instagram.com/p/ClnLMc8NCwi/?hl=en

To say the least, Jayson Tatum's performance in the finals was lackluster. Although his stats were not too poor, he often seemed to be shying away from the game and not taking initiative. He heavily relied on his teammates to pick up the slack, and when he did shoot, many of his shots were low-percentage and rushed. While Tatum's skillset is clearly up there with the best of them and he is undoubtedly a perennial all-star, he still needs to prove that he has that killer instinct in him under any circumstances. As a result, many don't see him being of the same caliber of a player as Curry or Giannis just yet.

Devin Booker

https://www.instagram.com/p/CX1b8PVr8bY/?hl=en

Devin Armani Booker is a professional basketball player who currently plays for the Phoenix Suns in the NBA. He played college basketball for one season at Kentucky before being drafted by the Suns in the first round of the 2015 NBA draft as the 13th overall pick. Booker made history in 2017 when he scored 70 points in a game against the Boston Celtics, becoming the youngest player ever to score over 60 points in a game. Two years later, at the age of 22, Booker set another record by becoming the youngest player to score consecutive 50-point games in NBA history.
