An air accident can occur when an aircraft experiences a sudden and serious accident during flight, caused by things such as bad weather, system problems, pilot or air traffic controller errors, or birds striking the aircraft. This often damages the aircraft and causes possible injury to passengers and crew. In some tragic plane crashes, some survivors have incredible stories of survival. These survival stories are like miracles because they defy the odds and show the strength of human resilience.

Here’s a list that contains individuals who were the only survivors of a plane crash:

1. Vesna  Vulović

Vesna Vulović is a former Serbian flight attendant. She was on JAT Yugoslav Airlines Flight 367, which was flying to Belgrade, Yugoslavia from Stockholm, Sweden. The plane exploded mid-air and crashed in Czechoslovakia on 26 January 1972. She was the only survivor of the crash and holds the Guinness World Record for surviving the highest fall without a parachute, at 10,160 meters. She was severely injured, including a coma, fractured skull and pelvis, broken vertebrae, legs, and ribs. She was initially paralyzed from the waist down but later recovered, although she walked with a limp.

2.  Bahia Bakari

Yemenia Flight 626 was flying from Yemen to Comoros when it crashed into the Indian Ocean on 30th June 2019, killing 152 people on board. Bahia Bakari was the only survivor of the crash. She was only 12 years old when the crash happened. suffered injuries including a fractured pelvis, collarbone, facial injuries, and burns on her knees. She was reunited with her father after the rescue, but her mother passed away in the crash. Her remarkable survival earned her the nickname "the miracle girl" in the media.

3.  Cecelia Cichan

The Northwest Airlines Flight 255 was flying from Romulus, Michigan to Phoenix, Arizona when it crashed shortly after takeoff on August 16, 1987.  The crash claimed the lives of about 156 people, including two people on the ground. This crash holds the record for the deadliest plane crash with only one survivor and is the second deadliest plane crash in U.S. history. Cecelia Cichan was the only survivor of the crash. She was only four years old when it happened. Cichan's parents and her 6-year-old brother were among those who died. She suffered a fractured skull, broken leg, and collarbone, as well as severe burns that required four skin grafts.

4. Ruben van Assouw

Afriqiyah Airways Airbus A330 crashed near the runway of Tripoli airport in Libya on 12 May 2010 killing 103 people. Ruben van Assouw who was 9 years old at the time, was the only survivor of the tragic plane crash. He had four leg fractures and had lost a significant amount of blood, but fortunately, his head and neck were not injured. Sadly, both of Ruben's parents lost their lives in the crash.

5. Juliane Koepcke

Juliane Koepcke was 17 years old when LANSA Flight 508 crashed into the Amazon Rainforest on December 24, 1971. The flight was supposed to go from Lima to Iquitos, but it encountered a thunderstorm just 25 minutes after takeoff. Lightning struck the plane, causing it to crash. Juliane said she suddenly found herself outside the plane, still strapped in her seat which was connected to a row of seats. She fell about 10,000 feet and crashed into the Amazon, losing consciousness. She woke up the next day and spent 11 days trekking through the rainforest before finding help.
