Ween, an American rock band hailing from New Hope, Pennsylvania, was founded in 1984 by Aaron Freeman (Gene Ween) and Mickey Melchiondo (Dean Ween). Known for their alternative rock style, Ween boasts a diverse catalog that draws inspiration from funk, soul, country, gospel, prog, psychedelia, R&B, heavy metal, and punk rock.
Their early years saw the self-release of several cassette albums until 1989, followed by three lo-fi albums: "GodWeenSatan: The Oneness" (1990), "The Pod" (1991), and "Pure Guava" (1992). Signing with Elektra Records for "Pure Guava," they achieved chart success with the single "Push th' Little Daisies."
Transitioning between major labels and independent releases, Ween delivered albums like "Chocolate and Cheese" (1994), "12 Golden Country Greats" (1996), "The Mollusk" (1997), and "White Pepper" (2000). After a hiatus prompted by Freeman's departure in 2012 to address addiction issues, Ween regrouped in 2015 for extensive touring without immediate plans for new recordings.
Over their initial decade, Ween performed as a duo before expanding to a four-piece with the release of "Chocolate and Cheese." Live performances featured Claude Coleman Jr., Dave Dreiwitz, and Glenn McClelland, while Andrew Weiss, who joined in 1989, contributed as a bassist and producer for five studio albums. Despite limited mainstream attention, Ween cultivated a dedicated fan base and received critical acclaim.
