What Does Idle Mean On Discord? How To Set The Idle Status On Discord?
Fresherslive

Just like VoIP platforms like Skype, Discord uses various icons to show your activity status on the platform. The status icons let other users know whether you’re online or offline, but there is another type of status you can use on Discord called “Idle”. So, what does idle mean on Discord? In this article, we have explained what it means and also we have told you how exactly you can set the idle status on Discord, so get into it.

What Does Idle Mean On Discord?

On Discord, the term “idle” is usually used to describe a user’s idle status. When someone is idle on Discord, it means they haven’t used Discord for a certain amount of time (usually around 5 minutes). If someone is idle, their status will be shown to other people in their friends list or on the servers.

The idle status lets others know that the user might not be actively using Discord at that time. It is distinct from "offline," which is when the user manually sets the status to "offline" or when the user has been offline for an extended period of time.

If someone’s status is idle, it doesn’t necessarily mean they’re not on their computer or device. They may still be able to reply to messages or join in conversations, but it means they haven’t used Discord in a while.

Idle On Discord

On Discord, the idle status is represented by the crescent moon emoji. When you change your Discord status to Idle, it usually means that the app is open on your smartphone but you haven't interacted with it in more than 5 minutes. In other words, you're not using the keyboard or are AFK. However, because you have not logged out of the platform, this does not imply that you are offline.

You can still get messages and updates from other users and stay up to date on the platform's activities. Discord will automatically change your status to Idle if it detects inactivity for 5 to 10 minutes. However, you can change your status to Idle manually.

How To Set The Idle Status On Discord?

There are two ways to set your status to Idle on Discord: manually or by inactivity.

Manually Setting Idle:

  • Open the Discord app on your desktop or mobile device.
  • Click on your profile picture located in the bottom-left corner of the screen.
  • A menu will pop up with your current status and other options. Click on it.
  • You'll see a list of available statuses: Online, Idle, Do Not Disturb, and Invisible.
  • Select "Idle" from the list.

Going Idle by Inactivity:

If you haven’t used Discord for more than 5 minutes, Discord will automatically turn your status to “Idle”. This is a good choice if you want your idle status to reflect your actual  activity.

Other Discord Status Option Meanings

Discord offers a few status options besides Idle to reflect your availability:

  • Online (Green Circle): This is the default status and shows you're actively using Discord, even if you're just browsing servers or in a call. On mobile, a green phone icon represents this status.
  • Do Not Disturb (Red Circle):  This lets others know you don't want to be bothered. You'll still be technically online but won't receive notification sounds for messages or mentions.
  • Invisible (Gray Circle): This acts like appearing offline. You won't show up in online lists, but you can still access Discord and see messages (though you won't get notified).
  • Custom Status (Custom Text): This allows you to set a personalized message displayed under your username. It can be anything you want and can last anywhere from 30 minutes to a whole day.
  • Streamer Mode (Purple Crown): This is a special status for streamers to hide specific information like usernames and email addresses in Discord while they stream.

These status indicators allow you to tell your friends how available you are and what you like to do on Discord, making it easier for people to communicate and interact with each other on Discord.
