Despite his father's attempts to get him into a detox center at Hoag Hospital in Newport Beach, Brennan was turned away because of a lack of available beds, and the hospital failed to contact his father as promised. Tragically, Brennan died the next day at the age of 37.
Following his passing, numerous individuals expressed their condolences. Governor David Ige of Hawaii praised Brennan for his intelligence, leadership, and for uniting the people of Hawaii during the memorable 2007 season.
Who is Colt Brennan?
Colton James Brennan (August 16, 1983 – May 11, 2021) was a quarterback who played football in the United States. He attended college at the University of Hawaii and was recognized as a third-team All-American twice before being drafted by the Washington Redskins of the National Football League (NFL) in the sixth round of the 2008 NFL Draft.
During the 2006 season, Brennan played for Hawaii and set the record for the second-highest number of passing touchdowns in a single NCAA Division I season with 58. Additionally, he holds various other records in NCAA Division I FBS.

However, charges related to the incident were later dismissed. Subsequently, on December 10, 2019, Brennan was arrested for operating a vehicle while under the influence in Kaneohe.
Then, on August 1, 2020, Brennan was taken into custody for trespassing and refusing to leave a Kailua-Kona hotel while heavily intoxicated. He was charged with second-degree trespassing and bail was set at $250. However, despite the bail being set, he was detained in jail until his hearing, which took place several days later. The judge approved his lawyer's request for court-monitored release without bail until his next scheduled court appearance, which was later that month.

After transferring to the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa (Hawaii) in 2005, Brennan quickly secured the starting quarterback position. He played in 10 of 12 games that season, with the only exceptions being games against USC and San Diego State. In his first year with the Rainbow Warriors, he managed to either equal or break 11 school offensive records, making it a highly successful season.

His career-high numbers for passing yards (515), touchdowns (7), and pass completions (38) were recorded in a game against New Mexico State. Additionally, he had nine 300+ yard performances during the season, including four games with 400+ yards and a 515-yard game.
