Legendary professional wrestler Jerry "the King" Lawler has reportedly been admitted to a hospital in Florida following a "severe medical condition."

The 73-year-old Lawler reportedly had lunch with friends on Monday and was taken to the hospital at some time when he "felt sick," said the wrestling website PWInsider.

According to Action News 5, an NBC affiliate in Memphis, Lawler had a stroke at his home in Fort Myers, Florida, and is now recovering in the hospital following surgery.

In addition to having a stroke in 2018, Lawler also experienced a heart attack live on television in 2012.

Jerry O'Neil Lawler, better known by his ring name Jerry "The King" Lawler, is a professional wrestler and color commentator from the United States. He is currently signed to WWE, although he hasn't worked as a full-time commentator since April 2020.

Lawler has held more recognisable championships than any other professional wrestler in history, but he has never won a championship in the WWE, where he has only sometimes competed while largely offering color commentary. Lawler was inducted to the WWE Hall of Fame in 2007.
