The Forsyth Aldermen voted three to one to hire Pat Gray, a former Branson Police Sergeant. He recently resigned from the Branson Police Department after a suspension and HR investigation, as the city’s new Police Chief on December 19.

The Forsyth city was searching for a replacement for its Police Chief job since Chief David Forrest quit in October. The city got 5 applicants according to Mayor Kelly Dougherty. In the vote Alderman Ward I Missi Hesketh was the no, mentioning the uncertainty of the HR investigation, which was finished but the results were not revealed by the City of Branson.

What Happened To Pat Gray?

Pat Gray with former Branson Police Chief Jeff Matthews resigned from their jobs with the city of Branson on December 12, according to Branson Tri-Lakes News archives. This happened after the completion of an investigation into alleged unethical action but before the ending of the human resources processes of the city. Gray and Matthews were suspended since October 25. An investigation into the activity is concluded before the resignation letters are filed. But, as the investigation was considered connected to human resources and employment, the city of Branson was not releasing the report. The Missouri Sunshine Law permits records related to employment to stay confidential. 

Where Is Pat Gray?

When asked about Pat Gray being considered for the Police Chief role before the official hiring, Ward II Alderman Dustin Krobs informed Branson Tri-Lakes News the committee discovered Gray to be the most qualified candidate for the position.

Krobs said in an email, “We (the hiring committee) recommended Pat Gray for the Chief Position in Forsyth. He is a Forsyth local, and his family has roots here. He comes from a long line of law enforcement officers. Pat brings years of experience from his military service, to his days as a patrolman for Branson PD, to his Sergeant Detective for the Branson PD. His 30 Plus years of experience will be an asset in rebuilding and restructuring this department. We interviewed five applicants. We did extensive background checks on all candidates, and even with his suspension, he is (the) number one (candidate). When conducting these background checks, no one can even tell us what this suspension (was) for.”

After the meeting, Pat Gray told Branson Tri-Lakes News he was looking forward to creating a positive department for Forsyth.

Milton said that while some of the issues could not be discussed publicly, Milton did want to mention that there was some inappropriate misconduct that was found during the investigation, and those items were being forwarded to a state agency to follow up on."

Milton said, "The Board of Aldermen has unanimously agreed to forward these allegations to the state level.”

No further actions were taken against Pat Gray or Matthews by the City of Branson, according to Branson Tri-Lakes News archives, other than the forwarding of the investigation to the 'state agency' referred to by Milton, which the Branson Tri-Lakes News made sure is the Missouri State Highway Patrol.
