Her first child, a son, died of pneumonia in 2018. Her second child, also a son, died in infancy. Her third child, a daughter, was born in a refugee camp in 2019 where Begum was staying after leaving ISIS territory. Begum has stated that she wants to return to the UK with her surviving daughter, but her citizenship was revoked by the British government and she was unable to return. In 2020, it was reported that her daughter had died in a Syrian refugee camp though this was later refuted and her recent whereabouts are unknown.
