What is Companion Mode on Google Meet?

Google Meet is a two-way or multi-way video call option to communicate with others. It replaced Google's two apps, Google Hangouts and Google Chat. Now, Google Meet is expanding its features by adding Companion Mode.

Companion Mode helps people smoothly join meetings, especially if they are not able to get their main device to attend the meeting. It is like having a helper join the meeting and be part of the discussion, no matter where they are. Once you connect to companion mode, the audio and video will automatically be set to mute mode.

If you are in a place where you can't use your computer or phone for the meeting, Companion Mode allows you to use another device, like a tablet or laptop, instead of a phone or computer. When you are in companion mode, there are no interruptions from surrounding noise or broadband errors. You can still connect to the meeting even though you don't have your main devices.
