What is The Devil Gene In Tekken?

The Devil Gene in Tekken is a distinctive genetic trait that sets the stage for a peculiar relationship between an individual and a malevolent entity known as a "devil." This gene operates as a catalyst, allowing for a symbiotic or host-like connection with the malignant spirit. Throughout the Tekken series, characters carrying the Devil Gene undergo transformative episodes, manifesting extraordinary powers and physical alterations that blur the line between human and supernatural entities. The nature of this gene introduces a layer of complexity to the narrative, as characters grapple with the consequences and struggles associated with their inherited connection to the devilish force.

This genetic phenomenon often reveals itself during moments of intense stress or near-death experiences, triggering a transformation that grants the individual formidable abilities but also risks losing control over their own actions. The ongoing mysteries surrounding the Devil Gene add depth to the Tekken storyline, leaving ample room for exploration and intrigue in future developments within the gaming series.

What are Types of the Devil In Tekken?

Azazel, The First Devil

  • Introduction in Tekken 6: Azazel is introduced as the main boss in Tekken 6, identified as an ancient demon and regarded as the origin of the Devil Gene.
  • Demonic Bloodlines: Azazel is linked to the spread of demonic powers, creating multiple Devil bloodlines in ancient times. These bloodlines, tied to the Devil Gene, are bestowed upon his followers, amplifying their strength.

The Hachijo Clan and Kazumi's Role

  • Introduction of the Hachijo Clan: The Hachijo Clan, highly affected by the Devil Gene, plays a significant role in Tekken's storyline, particularly Kazumi Hachijo.
  • Kazumi's Mission: Kazumi, part of the Hachijo family, adopts the identity of Kazumi Mishima with a mission to eliminate Heihachi Mishima, considering him a potential world threat. This mission is driven by the Hachijo family's awareness of their demonic bloodline.

Kazuya and the Influence of the Devil Gene

  • Kazuya's Traumatic Past: Kazuya Mishima, the son of Heihachi and Kazumi, experiences a tumultuous childhood, marked by his mother's assassination attempt and being thrown off a cliff by his father.
  • Personality and Devil Form: Kazuya's Devil form is heavily influenced by his core personality, characterized by revenge and a thirst for power. Unlike characters like Jin, whose Devil form strives for good, Kazuya's Devil form is driven by malevolent goals, including world domination.

Jin and the Kazamas

  • Jin Kazama's Origins: Jin, born from Kazuya's relationship with Jun Kazama of the Kazama family, inherits the Devil Gene but discovers it later in life.
  • Struggle with the Devil Gene: Jin's initial reaction to the Devil Gene is rejection, viewing it as a curse. Devil Jin, a separate persona within Jin, emerges to protect him during dire situations.
  • Control and Reconciliation: Jin eventually learns to control the Devil Gene, understanding Devil Jin's true intentions. The two reconcile and become more powerful together.

Honorable Mention: Jinpachi Mishima

  • Deceptive Appearance: Despite his demonic appearance, Jinpachi Mishima is unrelated to the Devil Gene. He is Kazuya's grandfather from his father's side.
  • Possession in Tekken 5: In Tekken 5, Jinpachi is possessed by a vengeful spirit, not connected to the Devil Gene. Heihachi's father having a demonic form is coincidental, distinct from the Devil Gene's influence.

Tekken 8

Tekken 8 is a video game where characters fight each other. It was made by Bandai Namco Studios and Arika. Bandai Namco Entertainment released the game on January 26, 2024, for PlayStation 5, Windows, and Xbox Series X/S.

The game's story, called The Dark Awakens, happens six months after the last game. It focuses on a big fight between two main characters, Kazuya Mishima and Jin Kazama, who are father and son. Jin wants to kill his father to stop the problems in their family. The game has 32 characters, some are from the old games, and some are new. Each character has their own story that adds to the main story.

Tekken 8 was first talked about in August 2022 and officially shown in September 2022. It uses a game engine called Unreal Engine 5 and has better fighting elements than the previous game. There are also new things like the "Heat" system and "Tornado" hits. They added a new mode called Arcade Quest, which has tournaments, arcade features, and you can change how your character looks. There's also special money you can use in the game.

Before releasing the game, they tested it in July and October 2023 to make sure it worked well. They also gave a demo of the game on consoles in December 2023. People who pre-ordered the game got the first season pass, which included extra content and new characters.

Tekken 8 Gameplay

Tekken 8 is a fighting game, and it's similar to the older Tekken games. The person in charge of making the game, Katsuhiro Harada, says Tekken 8 will be more aggressive than the last one. This means the game rewards players who attack a lot instead of just defending.

They added a new thing called "Heat." When a character is in the "Heat" mode, they do more damage, get extra moves, and change how some of their attacks work. They can even cancel their moves while in this mode. The "Heat" mode has a timer, and it stops when characters use certain moves. If you guard against strong attacks or characters in "Heat" mode, you'll still take some damage, but you can gain back health by attacking.

Tekken 8 has some changes and improvements. The "Rage" system from the last game is back, but they changed one of the moves to a new super move called "Heat Smash." They also replaced the "Screw" move with a "Tornado" move that puts opponents on the ground quickly. Some stages in the game have special things like walls and floors that break when hit hard enough. There are also hazards, like explosive walls and floors that make characters fly up when hit.

Tekken 8 Plot

Jin, after failing to defeat Kazuya, announces a new tournament where nations fight for rewards, and the losers face destruction. During qualifiers, Jin loses his devil powers and meets Reina, who wants to understand the Mishima devil powers. Others like Claudio, Zafina, and Xiaoyu also watch the tournament.

In Italy, Kazuya absorbs Azazel's power, becoming a True Devil. Jin, guided by Leroy, seeks control over his devil powers. The rebels, UN, and tournament fighters battle Kazuya's forces. Jin faces his devil self, accepts his powers, and saves Lars. In a final battle, Jin defeats Kazuya, purging their Devil Genes. Jin leaves with Xiaoyu, and Jun approaches Kazuya.

In the credits, combatants help restore Manhattan, Leo and Niklas continue their mission, Yggdrasil and UN celebrate, and Zafina and Claudio survive. In a mid-credit scene, Reina, surviving Kazuya's attack, vows revenge and reveals she has the Devil Gene.
