Fast X

Fast X, also referred to as Fast & Furious 10 or Fast & Furious X, is an action-packed American film released in 2023. Louis Leterrier directed the movie based on a story written by Dan Mazeau, Justin Lin, and Zach Dean. Serving as the sequel to F9 (2021), Fast X is the tenth primary installment and the eleventh overall entry in the Fast & Furious franchise. The film features Vin Diesel reprising his role as Dominic Toretto, leading an ensemble cast that includes Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson, Chris "Ludacris" Bridges, John Cena, Nathalie Emmanuel, Jordana Brewster, Sung Kang, Scott Eastwood, Daniela Melchior, Alan Ritchson, Helen Mirren, Brie Larson, Rita Moreno, Jason Statham, Jason Momoa, and Charlize Theron. In this installment, Dom (played by Diesel) must shield his family from Dante Reyes (Momoa), who seeks vengeance for his father's demise and the loss of his family's fortune.

Plans for the tenth film had been in motion since 2014, and a two-part finale was announced in October 2020. Justin Lin was confirmed to return as the director, and the main cast members were attached to the project. The film's official title was unveiled when principal photography commenced in April 2022. However, Lin stepped down as the director later that month due to creative differences, although he retained writing and producing credits. Subsequently, Louis Leterrier was hired as his replacement and made several uncredited rewrites to the screenplay. Brian Tyler, the longstanding composer of the franchise, returned to score the film. With an estimated budget of $340 million, Fast X ranks as the eighth most expensive film ever produced. Filming took place in various locations including London, Rome, Turin, Lisbon, and Los Angeles, spanning from April to August.

On May 12, 2023, Fast X made its premiere at The Space Cinema Roma Moderno in Rome. The film was initially released in various European and South American countries on May 17, followed by its release in the United States and Canada on May 19, distributed by Universal Pictures. Critics' reviews of the film were mixed, with praise directed towards the performances of the cast, notably Jason Momoa, but criticism aimed at its writing. Fast X has achieved a worldwide box office gross of $318 million, making it the seventh-highest-grossing film of 2023. A sequel is already scheduled for release in 2025.

Is Jakob Toretto Dead?

Fast X, Jakob Toretto, played by John Cena, is presumed dead. During the climactic final action set piece, Jakob's car hits an object and explodes while he is carrying Dom's son, Brian. However, as with many things in the Fast & Furious franchise, the death of a character is not always a guarantee and there is always a possibility for surprise twists in the future. So it is uncertain if Jakob may return in future installments.

Jakob Toretto is considered dead, and this is the official stance of the movie. However, as mentioned earlier, the Fast & Furious franchise is known for its unexpected plot twists and surprise character returns. Therefore, it is possible that Jakob could reappear in a future installment, even if he appeared to have died in Fast X. Whether or not he does come back remains to be seen, but it is always a possibility with this franchise. Fans of the series eagerly await the next installment to see what surprises the filmmakers have in store for them.

Fast X Plot

Dominic "Dom" Toretto and his team receive a mission from the Agency to steal a computer chip during its transit in Rome. While Dom and his wife Letty Ortiz stay behind with their son Brian "Little B" Marcos, the rest of the team heads to Rome. However, their plans are disrupted when Cipher, who is injured, arrives at Dom's home and reveals that Dante Reyes, the son of a drug lord seeking revenge, has turned against her. Dom realizes they have been set up and travels with Letty to rescue their team.

In Rome, Dante traps Dom's team in a truck rigged with a time bomb. Dom and Letty pursue them, ultimately pushing the bomb into the Tiber River to minimize the damage. Letty is arrested while attempting to apprehend Dante. Agent Aimes, now leading the Agency, believes Dom's team is responsible for the bombing and initiates a manhunt, putting a multi-million dollar bounty on them.

In Los Angeles, armed individuals attempt to take Little B, who is under the care of Mia, Dom's sister. Dom's estranged brother Jakob appears and thwarts the attackers, taking Little B to a secret location in Portugal to meet with Dom. Tess, Mr. Nobody's daughter, uses the God's Eye technology to locate Dom in Naples and informs him that Dante is in Rio de Janeiro. Dom confronts Dante and agrees to a race, joined by his friend Diogo and Isabel Neves, Little B's late mother's sister. During the race, Dante reveals he has planted bombs in Diogo and Isabel's cars. Dom crashes into Isabel to disarm the bomb, while Diogo's car explodes.

Tess visits Letty at a CIA black site but covertly wounds her, leading Letty to the prison's treatment center. There, she encounters Cipher, who escapes and releases Letty. Letty attacks Cipher but reluctantly decides to work with her to escape. In London, the team discovers their bank accounts have been drained and seeks assistance from Deckard Shaw, whose mother is also a fugitive aiding Dom.

Aimes captures Dom, but Dante's mercenaries ambush Aimes' team. Aimes joins forces with Dom to fight them, but Dante reveals he has kidnapped Isabel. Tess arrives to help but is wounded by a sniper working for Dante. Dante steals God's Eye and locates Little B in Portugal. Dom rescues Isabel, and Aimes agrees to help Dom take down Dante. Dom's team is informed and heads to Portugal.

Meanwhile, Dante chases Jakob and Little B, eventually kidnapping Little B. Jakob sacrifices himself in a crash to eliminate Dante's mercenaries, allowing Dom to save his son. At a nearby dam, Dante traps Dom and Little B between two trailers. Aimes revealed as a double agent, shoots down the plane carrying Dom's team. To evade the trailers, Dom drives off the dam and into the water. He and Little B swim to safety but are confronted by Dante, who sets off explosives rigged at the dam. In Antarctica, Letty and Cipher escape the black site and are rescued by Gisele Yashar, who was presumed dead.

In a mid-credit scene, Luke Hobbs and his agents storm a police station owned by Dante, who contacts Hobbs to inform him that he is the next target for killing his father
