Who is Dan Morrissey? 

Daniel Morrissey, born on April 20, 1993, is an Irish hurler who plays as a left wing-back for the Ahane club. He also represents the Limerick senior hurling team at the inter-county level.

Dan Morrissey Early Life

Morrissey hails from Castleconnell, County Limerick, where he was born. His brother, Tom Morrissey, is also a player for both Ahane and the Limerick senior hurling team.

Dan Morrissey's Playing Career

University

While attending the University of Limerick, Morrissey was chosen to represent the college's senior hurling team. On March 11, 2015, he achieved a Fitzgibbon Cup medal as UL emerged victorious in the final replay against the Waterford Institute of Technology, with a scoreline of 2-18 to 1-14 at Páirc Uí Rinn.

Morrissey became a member of the Ahane club at a young age and progressed through all levels, participating in juvenile and underage competitions, before eventually joining the senior team.

Inter-county

Minor and under-21

Morrissey's initial involvement with Limerick was at the minor level, where he made his debut on June 25, 2010, in a Munster Championship match against Clare, which resulted in a 1-17 to 2-12 defeat. He had another opportunity to play at the minor grade in 2011 but unfortunately, the season concluded with a 4-17 to 3-15 loss to Waterford.

Following that, Morrissey transitioned to the Limerick under-21 hurling team. He made his first appearance on July 18, 2012, in a match against Tipperary, which ended in a 1-16 to 1-11 defeat. Despite three consecutive seasons with the team, Morrissey was unable to secure any victories during that time.

Senior

Morrissey made his senior debut for Limerick on February 23, 2014, when he came on as a substitute for Gavin O'Mahony in the final 12 minutes of a National Hurling League game against Antrim at the Gaelic Grounds. He was named as an unused substitute for the subsequent championship campaign.

On March 12, 2017, Morrissey scored his first point for Limerick in a comprehensive 6-33 to 1-19 victory over Laois in the National League.

Following Limerick's All-Ireland quarter-final win against Kilkenny on July 15, 2018, Morrissey was named man of the match, outshining Kilkenny's Eoin Murphy and his own brother Tom.

On August 19, 2018, Morrissey played at left wing-back as Limerick secured their first All-Ireland title in 45 years, defeating Galway 3-16 to 2-18 in the final. He concluded the season by being awarded an All-Star Award.

On March 31, 2019, Morrissey was selected at left wing-back for Limerick's National League final against Waterford at Croke Park. He collected a winners' medal as Limerick emerged victorious with a scoreline of 1-24 to 0-19. On June 30, 2019, he added a Munster Championship medal to his collection as Limerick triumphed over Tipperary 2-26 to 2-14 in the final, with Morrissey playing at left wing-back.

On October 25, 2020, Morrissey secured a second consecutive National League medal after Limerick's 0-36 to 1-23 victory over Clare in the delayed final. Later in the season, he claimed another Munster Championship medal, this time playing at full-back in Limerick's 0-25 to 0-21 triumph over Waterford in the Munster final.
