Sinner started his junior career in 2016, when he joined the ITF Junior Circuit, the main junior tour organized by the International Tennis Federation (ITF). However, he did not achieve much success as a junior, and he decided to focus mainly on the professional tour after 2017. He never reached the main draw of any of the top-level Grade 1 events in singles, and the only higher-level Grade A event he participated in was the Trofeo Bonfiglio, an Italian tournament.
