Morrissey hails from Castleconnell, County Limerick. He shares his passion for hurling with his brother, Dan Morrissey, who is also a player for both Ahane and the Limerick senior hurling team.

Tom Morrissey Career

University

While pursuing his education at the University of Limerick, Morrissey earned a spot on the college's senior hurling team. On 24 February 2018, he achieved success by securing a Fitzgibbon Cup medal after UL's victory of 2-21 to 2-15 against Dublin City University in the final.

Club

Having joined Ahane at a tender age, Morrissey actively participated in all levels, from juvenile to underage. Notably, he clinched a championship medal in the minor grade during the year 2014. Later, he made the transition to play for the club's senior team.

Inter-county

Minor and under-21

At the age of seventeen, Morrissey made his debut for the Limerick minor hurling team. On 23 July 2013, he exhibited his talent by scoring three points from play during Limerick's victory over Waterford in the replay of the Munster Championship final, marking the team's first title in 29 years.

The following year, Morrissey remained eligible for the minor grade and secured a second consecutive Munster Championship medal after another replay triumph against Waterford, with a scoreline of 0-24 to 0-18. However, in the All-Ireland final on 7 September 2014, Limerick suffered a defeat of 2-17 to 0-19 against Kilkenny.

Transitioning to the Limerick under-21 hurling team, Morrissey continued his success, earning a Munster Championship medal in his debut season with a 0-22 to 0-19 victory over Clare in the final. Subsequently, on 12 September 2015, he played at full-forward in the All-Ireland final, where Limerick triumphed over Wexford with a scoreline of 0-26 to 1-07. His impressive performance led to his inclusion in the Bord Gáis Energy Team of the Year.

In 2017, Morrissey took on the role of captain and led Limerick to secure another Munster Championship title with a 0-16 to 1-11 victory against Cork in the final. His leadership continued to shine in the All-Ireland final, where Limerick emerged victorious with a score of 0-17 to 0-11 against Kilkenny on 9 September 2017.

Senior

Ahead of the 2015 season, Morrissey earned his place on the Limerick senior hurling panel. He made his senior debut for Limerick on 14 February 2015 during a National Hurling League match against Waterford at the Gaelic Grounds, coming on as a substitute for Niall Moran in the 47th minute of the game.

On 19 August 2018, Morrissey played as a left wing-forward in the All-Ireland final, where Limerick secured their first title in 45 years with a thrilling 3-16 to 2-18 victory over Galway. His exceptional performance earned him a spot on The Sunday Game Team of the Year, and he was subsequently nominated for an All-Star Award at the end of the season.

In the 2019 National League final against Waterford at Croke Park on 31 March 2019, Morrissey was selected as a left wing-forward and contributed significantly to Limerick's success with a point from play. As a result, he collected a winners' medal following their 1-24 to 0-19 victory. Later in the season, on 30 June 2019, Morrissey showcased his skills once again and scored four points from the left wing-forward position during Limerick's 2-26 to 2-14 triumph against Tipperary in the Munster Championship final, securing a Munster Championship medal.
