Who is Yoriichi Brother?

Michikatsu Tsugikuni is the older twin brother of Yoriichi Tsugikuni, and a major antagonist in the anime series, Demon Slayer: Kimetsu No Yaiba. He became a demon after being turned by Muzan Kibutsuji and assumed the name Kokushibo. Driven by envy and hatred towards his younger twin brother, Yoriichi, Michikatsu spent a better part of his life wishing he had his brother’s natural talent. He became the strongest upper-rank demon of the Twelve Kizuki, holding the title Upper-Rank One. As a result, he turned out to be the arch-enemy of his demon slayer younger twin brother, Yoriichi Tsugikuni.

In the series, Yoriichi lived up to the age of 85 and died of old age, while Michikatsu, as Kokushibo, was killed by Muichiro’s Nichiren sword, preventing him from regenerating. Though Michikatsu's name has been lost in history, he is better known as Kokushibo, the Upper-Rank One demon.

Is Yoriichi Tsugikuni Alive?

Yoriichi Tsugikuni engaged in a battle with his older twin brother, Kokushibo, who transformed into a demon shortly before Yoriichi's death at the age of at least 85 years. Despite his advanced age and apparent blindness, Yoriichi gained the upper hand in the fight with a single move, slitting Kokushibo's throat before he passed away standing up and unscathed. Kokushibo acknowledged that if Yoriichi had launched a second strike before his demise, he would have been killed. He also noted that Yoriichi's power was still at its prime.

Yoriichi is recognized as the progenitor of the Demon Slayer Mark, possessing tremendous physical abilities throughout his entire lifespan. Unlike other Mark users of his era, Yoriichi was able to defy fate and live until his 85th year. The reason for Yoriichi's immunity to Mark's effects is unknown, but it is likely because he was the first to have it naturally, unlike other Mark bearers who must train to acquire it.

Who is Yoriichi Tsugikuni?

Yoriichi was a skilled Demon Slayer and the first breath user, wearing Hanafuda earrings like Tanjiro. He created the Sun Breathing style, which all other breathing forms originate from. Despite appearing weak after his birth, Yoriichi possessed remarkable emotional intelligence and was born with the Demon Slayer mark on his forehead, a symbol of his immense strength and skill as a fighter. His father initially mistook the mark for a bad omen and threatened to kill him, but his mother Akeno intervened and convinced him to send Yoriichi to a monastery when he turned ten.

After his mother's death, Yoriichi fled his house and spent a day and night running in the mountains without showing signs of fatigue. During his travels, he met a girl named Uta and decided to live with her. However, one day when he went out to find a midwife for his wife, he encountered an old man who needed his help. After assisting the man, Yoriichi returned home to discover that a demon had killed Uta and their unborn child. He carried their bodies for ten days before burying them, following advice from a member of the Demon Slayer Corps. This tragedy led Yoriichi to pick up his blade and train as a Demon Slayer.

Is Yoriichi and Kokushibo the Same Person?

Yoriichi Tsugikuni was an identical twin to Kokushibo, whose birth name was Michikatsu. During their childhood, Michikatsu saw Yoriichi as inferior due to the grotesque mark he bore, causing him to be ostracized by their family. Michikatsu was chosen to be the successor of the family, while Yoriichi was pitied by him for what he perceived as childish behavior. Despite this, Michikatsu risked beatings from their father to interact with his younger brother, even giving him a handmade flute and telling him to blow on it whenever he was in trouble, promising to come and protect him.
