Whatever Happened To Cryme Tyme?

JTG, a part of the Cryme Tyme team, was fired from WWE more than once throughout his career, and it seems like there is a great explanation for why he and Shad Gaspard were let go the first time. During their time in WWE, Cryme Tyme had a reputation as two hustlers from the Bronx who would sell anything they could find at auction. After Lita left the organization at Survivor Series in 2006, they even once held a Ho Sale.

Although JTG and Shad Gaspard were well-liked tag teams in the WWE, they were never able to win the Tag Partnership Championships, and it could be said that neither star truly recovered after the team's formal breakup.

JTG recently discussed the first time he and Gaspard were fired from WWE back in September 2007 on Why It Ended on Major League Wrestling Radio. The reason for their firing is actually quite an intriguing one.

Why Was Cryme Tyme Fired?

He said that a "rib" gone bad was the reason they had been freed. In a live event, Lance Cade and Trevor Murdock pulled a rib on them, leaving them where they were supposed to go over in the ring. Shad came up with the idea of finishing the move on the referee to get the crowd going.

To a warm response from the audience, they auctioned the referee's belt. Cryme Tyme has done this previously, so it's clear that they weren't prepared for the negative feedback they got.

JTG went on to claim that he had anticipated receiving a fine but not a dismissal. He had been curious about the fine because they had received penalties in the past.

Cryme Tyme WWE

JTG and Shad Gaspard formed the American professional wrestling tag team Cryme Tyme, which is best recognized for its tenure in the WWE.

The group was a ridiculous parody of stereotypical street thugs. The tag team split up in 2010, but they got back together in 2014 and wrestled till Gaspard passed away in May 2020.

JTG, meantime, made his OVW debut as Just Too Good and, after two matches, was rebranded as The Neighborhoodie. He was then paired with Gaspard, who started going by his real name, to create a tag team.

Gaspard Death

On June 19, 2014, it was revealed that JTG and Gaspard were looking for booking interests for what is now known as the somewhat modified "Crime Time." At WOW Under the Lights 3, Chachi, JGeorge, and Mike Verna defeated Crime Time and The Blue Meanie on August 23, 2014. Crime Time defeated Damien Darling and Danny Demento in the JAPW 18th Anniversary Show. At the XWA Xtreme Rumble on March 3, 2016, Colt Cabana and Dick Justice prevailed over the pair.

Up until Gaspard's drowning death on May 17, 2020, JTG and Gaspard wrestled together on the independent circuit. On February 15, 2020, in Mississauga, Ontario, Canada, at the Battle Arts promotion of former WWE wrestler Santino Marella, they competed in their farewell match. The Warrior Award was presented to Gaspard during the WWE Hall of Fame in 2022.
