While fans eagerly await the confirmation of Vinland Saga Season 3, the journey to this point has been filled with anticipation and excitement. Following the show's premiere in 2019, the second season was officially announced in 2022 and graced our screens this year. Now, we look ahead to the possibility of a third season, which might be confirmed in 2024 for a potential release in 2025.

Vinland Saga Plot

In the year 1013 AD, a young warrior named Thorfinn seeks vengeance against Askeladd, the man responsible for his father's death during a journey to England. Thorfinn joins Askeladd's mercenary group, which serves under King Sweyn in the Danish invasion of London. Alongside Thorkell the Tall, Thorfinn's uncle and former comrade of his father, they become entangled in a web of political intrigue. Askeladd's initial plan to sell Prince Canute as a captive takes a turn when he decides to pursue his personal agenda and secure his mother's homeland of Wales. Askeladd sacrifices himself by killing King Sweyn, allowing Prince Canute to ascend the throne. Thorfinn attempts to assassinate King Canute but fails and is sentenced to a life of enslavement.

A year after Askeladd's death, Thorfinn finds himself on a farm owned by Ketil, a benevolent farmer. He befriends another slave named Einar and, with the support of their newfound allies, including Ketil's father Sverker and the farm's head of security Snake, Thorfinn begins to let go of his vengeful past. Driven by dreams of his father and Askeladd, he embraces a pacifist path and seeks a peaceful life away from the violent world of the Vikings.

Meanwhile, Canute becomes King of both England and Denmark after eliminating his brother Harald. He launches a campaign that involves seizing Ketil's farm. Thorfinn confronts Canute, showcasing his transformation and persuading the king to spare the farmers. Moved by Thorfinn's change, Canute relinquishes his claim to the farm. Thorfinn and Einar are freed from their enslavement and set sail for Iceland with Leif Erikson, an old friend of Thorfinn's father.

Upon returning to Iceland and reuniting with his family, Thorfinn shares his vision of settling in Vinland—a place of peace and harmony. To finance their journey, Thorfinn, Leif, Einar, and their companions travel to Greece to sell narwhal horns. Along the way, they encounter various challenges, including clashes with Jomsvikings and the capture of their group. Thorfinn's crew eventually finds themselves in the service of Thorkell, engaging in battles against Floki's forces.

After a series of conflicts and alliances, Thorfinn's crew successfully defeats Floki and captures him and Baldr, Thorfinn's cousin. Thorfinn is temporarily appointed as leader of the Jomsvikings and receives orders from King Canute to disband the group and spare Floki and Baldr. Two years later, Thorfinn's crew returns to Iceland with newfound wealth. Thorfinn marries Gudrid, and they raise a boy named Karli as their son. With the resources obtained, Thorfinn begins assembling a crew to establish a peaceful settlement in Vinland. Clearing a portion of the forest and cultivating wheat, they create a haven free from violence. They also establish peaceful relations with the native Beothuk people, fostering a sense of harmony and tranquility.
