Willy Adames Injury Update

During Friday's game between the Milwaukee Brewers and the San Francisco Giants, Willy Adames, the Brewers' shortstop, had to leave the game after being hit by a foul ball in the dugout.  The incident caused a temporary halt in the game as trainers and doctors attended to Adames. Eventually, he was assisted into the clubhouse and taken to the hospital for further evaluation.

The line drive struck Adames on the side of his head. After the game, Brewers manager Craig Counsell informed reporters that Adames remained alert and responsive throughout the ordeal. He did not suffer any fractures but will be kept in the hospital overnight for monitoring. Adames will be placed on the injured list the following day.

The foul ball was hit by Brian Anderson, a utility man for the Brewers, during the second inning. Anderson displayed visible emotions on the field as Adames received assistance in the dugout.  After grounding out to complete his at-bat, he immediately went to the clubhouse to check on his teammate. Adames was subsequently replaced at shortstop by rookie Brice Turang, who typically plays second base.

Adames, 27 years old, had been an active player in all 51 of Milwaukee's games leading up to Friday's incident. He held a batting line of .205/.289/.384 with nine home runs for the season.

Adames was acquired by the Brewers in a trade with the Tampa Bay Rays in 2021, where Drew Rasmussen was sent in exchange. His current contract extends until the end of the 2024 season, after which he is scheduled to become a free agent. Despite the lopsided loss on Friday (with a score of MIL 15, SF 1), the Brewers maintain their first-place position in the NL Central with a record of 27-24.
