A Brazilian mother, Cleidiane Santos dos Santos, recently gave birth to a 16-pound baby boy named Angerson via C-section at Hospital Padre Colombo in Parintins, Amazonas State.

The infant, who measured 2 feet in length, is currently being monitored in the neonatal intensive care unit.

The mother is recovering from the delivery.

Dr. Artemisia Pessoa, an OBGYN at Hospital Padre Colombo, stated that there is a sense of joy, satisfaction, and gratitude that everything worked out well in this rare and risky case, due to the baby's large size.

Pessoa expressed their emotions of joy, satisfaction and gratitude towards the successful outcome of the case. They also acknowledged that the situation was unique and carried potential risks due to the baby's size.

The American Pregnancy Association states that most babies born at full-term (39 to 40 weeks) weigh between 6-9 pounds.

The mother, Cleidiane Santos dos Santos, expressed her gratitude towards the medical team for their care during the delivery and post-delivery, saying she does not know what would have happened without their help.

A hospital announced on its Facebook page that Angerson is breastfeeding. According to the National Library of Medicine, a high birth weight - over 8 pounds and 13 ounces - increases the risk of high blood sugar and breathing issues in infants.

The heaviest baby to survive infancy on record, according to the Guinness World Records, is a boy who weighed 22 pounds and 8 ounces, born in Italy in 1955. In 2019, Joy Buckley of New York gave birth to a daughter weighing 15 pounds and 5 ounces.
