"1.0c" PATCH NOTES

  • Please note the actual version numbering for Switch is v1.03 and v1.04/1.05 on PlayStation. Both versions are based on the PC's v1.0c build, hence this is why you will see "1.0c" on the top right corner of the screen, and why we are calling this the "1.0c" patch.
  • Implemented several fixes for the correct operation of the game's handling of save data. Players' experiences during a playthrough of WORLD OF HORROR should now be correctly recorded in general, and players' progress should be properly reflected via the listings for ACHIEVEMENTS, EVENT CODEX, ENEMY BEASTIARY, ENDING ENCYCLOPEDIA and MYSTERY MONOGRAPH
  • The SAVE AND EXIT and EXIT TO MENU feature is now fixed and will no longer delete players' progression data
  • PS4 only: Accessing the Options Menu will no longer cause deletion of players' progression data (as of v1.05)
  • Fixed the introduction scene at the start of every playthrough getting cut short after pressing a button to proceed
  • Improved frame rate on Nintendo Switch. (Some players may find this subjective. Also, please note if you have WAVY EFFECT on in the Options Menu, the game's frame rate will still take a hit whenever the wavy effect comes on.)
  • Fixed issue where the EVENT CODEX's entries E001 to E080 may be erased by use of the SAVE AND EXIT function.
  • Fixed issue where only one ending from the bottom row unlocks ( Inconceivable Sadness)
  • When using Save and Exit at the player’s apartment, both "ENEMY BESTIARY" and "EVENTS CODEX" are expected to be updated accordingly with new entries after exiting the playthrough with that function.
  • Fixed issue where Events that haven't been encountered before by the player are sometimes being recorded and saved in EVENTS CODEX.
  • Fixed crash when changing add-on locations
  • Fixed issue where at the beginning of a new game, the game log displays the following message:

[WARNING] Your health dropped too low!

[WARNING] You will die at the beginning of your next encounter!"

  • Fixed issue with “EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITY" mode where sometimes a character starts the game with one random spell
  • Fixed issue where a customizable playthrough's BACKSTORY description text extends beyond the UI frame
  • Fixed crash when pressing shoulder buttons during the introduction cutscene at the beginning of a custom game
  • During the "PERILOUS PARABLE OF A PECULIAR PAINTING" mystery, fixed an issue where some event text extends beyond the frame
  • Fixed issue where the settings in the EXTRA menu [CREEPY NEIGHBOR] and [WAVY EFFECT] parameters were not saved
  • Fixed issue where sometimes the wrong character portrait is shown in a playthrough
  • Fixed issue with the inability to trigger the "SAY HELLO" in-game achievement
  • Fixed issue where the final in-game achievement "DUDE" could be activated, recorded and saved before its trigger requirements are met

KNOWN ISSUES:

  • The "WRONG BOOK!" Challenge may crash at the ascent to the Lighthouse and players may not be able to reach its end currently.
  • Event E050, "LIGHTHOUSE RUMOR", still may not be recorded in the EVENT CODEX even after the player encounters the event in any given playthrough. This appears unrelated to the previous issues causing achievement/event/enemy/ending data to be erased and/or unrecorded.
  • Attacking using SPELLS or ITEMS in a battle with multiple enemies, eg. Anomaly Attendant & Corpse Caregiver, may cause the [A<>B] button to malfunction, causing the second enemy to be untargetable.

Improvements in World of Horror Update 1.05

World of Horror's Update 1.05 focuses on delivering a more stable and enjoyable experience for players. This update brings crucial fixes, addressing issues related to saving progress and preventing data loss. Players no longer need to worry about losing their hard-earned progress when saving or exiting the game, ensuring a smoother and more reliable gameplay experience.

Additionally, improvements in performance, particularly for Nintendo Switch users, have been implemented. The frame rate has been enhanced, aiming to provide a more seamless and enjoyable gaming experience. These enhancements, coupled with bug fixes aimed at stabilizing the game, work together to offer players a more reliable and immersive adventure in the eerie world of World of Horror.

World of Horror

"World of Horror" is a video game that throws you into a spooky world inspired by H.P. Lovecraft and Junji Ito, two masters of horror. Created by Paweł Koźmiński from Poland and published by Ysbryd Games, this game has a unique 1-bit pixel art style that gives it a retro, old-school look.

Set in a fictional version of Shiokawa, Japan, during the mysterious "198X," you'll step into the shoes of a character exploring eerie locations. These places are filled with terrifying creatures from other dimensions. To stop an impending apocalypse by fighting these otherworldly beings.

As you progress through the game, you'll unravel a chilling storyline and face various challenges. The mix of exploration, strategy, and a haunting atmosphere makes "World of Horror" an intense and immersive gaming experience. Originally released in early access in 2020, the full game was officially launched in 2023 for macOS, Windows, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5, giving players across different platforms the chance to dive into this eerie and gripping world.

World of Horror Gameplay

In "World of Horror," gameplay revolves around exploring spooky locations and facing creepy creatures in turn-based combat. When you encounter these eerie beings, you'll have to plan your moves and attacks carefully, choosing from a list of actions to fight them off. The game's combat system lets you strategize by queuing up different actions to use against these hostile creatures. The creatures you'll encounter draw inspiration from Japanese horror manga and urban legends, adding a chilling touch to the game. From creatures like Kuchisake-onna to other nightmarish entities, each foe presents its own unique challenge. As you explore the haunting locations, you'll come across puzzles to solve and mysteries to uncover.

World of Horror Development

"World of Horror" was pieced together by Paweł Koźmiński, also known as Panstasz, who worked on the game part-time while balancing his career as a dentist. What's fascinating is that all the art you see in the game was created using a MS Paint. The writing side of the game was handled by Cassandra Khaw, an author who contributed to the creation of the haunting narrative that keeps players engaged. With Khaw's touch, the storyline and elements of the game were shaped into a captivating and chilling experience.

Music in games sets the atmosphere, and in "World of Horror," that role was played by ArcOfDream and Qwesta, who composed the game's haunting tunes. Interest in bringing "World of Horror" to consoles had been brewing since 2020, and finally, in November 2022, during Nintendo's Indie World Showcase, a release date for consoles was unveiled.
