"At a runtime of 132 minutes, the film manages to maintain a good pace without feeling dragged out. However, it has its ups and downs. The highs don't reach a point of being impressive, while the lows are filled with flaws and inconsistencies.
The story, co-written by Utekar, Maitrey Bajpai, and Ramiz Ilham Khan, starts off on a funny note and keeps up the momentum with harmless jokes, light-hearted humor, and comedic punches. However, after the intermission, it loses its direction and goes off track.
At this point, it would have been better if the film had stuck to being a romantic comedy instead of becoming overly melodramatic when it wasn't necessary. The script doesn't offer anything particularly new or hilarious. In fact, it becomes predictable in the second half, and the comedy of errors turns into just errors. The flaws in the writing and direction are hard to overlook.
The performances try to salvage the situation, but only to a certain extent. Sara shows some restraint in her acting, although there are moments when she goes overboard. Vicky portrays a range of emotions and keeps the romance alive onscreen like a lovestruck lover. He convincingly portrays a small-town guy and maintains a raw demeanor. The onscreen chemistry between Vicky and Sara is better than what we usually see in typical guy-meets-girl rom-com, although it's not extraordinary.
The supporting cast impresses, particularly Rakesh Bedi and Sushmita Mukherjee as Somya's parents. They are funny and stay true to their characters. There is a well-written and well-performed sequence between Kapil and Somya's father, where the father tries to understand the reason behind their divorce without it feeling awkward.
A nosy colony guard, played by Sharib Hashmi, is added to make things funnier at some point. While the actor delivers a good performance with his screen presence, it's disappointing that an artist of his caliber is reduced to a cameo. It would have been better if his role was more fleshed out.
The actor who plays Kapil's lawyer friend in the divorce case showcases overacting and doesn't quite justify the screen time given to him. On the other hand, Inaamulhaq delivers his part well as the crooked and dubious agent, providing comic relief in the story.
The music of Zara Hatke Zara Bachke stands out. After a long time, all the songs in a film are thoroughly enjoyable. Sachin-Jigar's music and Amitabh Bhattacharya's lyrics create a great vibe. Songs like "Tere Vaaste" stay with you, "Phir Aur Kya Chahiye" has already topped the charts, and "Sanjha" touches you emotionally. "Baby Tujhe Paap Lagega" isn't included in the film but it's already a peppy party number.
Zara Hatke Zara Bachke is an easy-going family entertainer that won't bore you. However, it lacks a lasting impact. There are a few laughs and some loud characters that make it watchable, but the story needed more depth and a better screenplay."
